Seth Kellogg [Cakewalk]
I wouldn't put too much energy into this. Lot's of stores put box artwork up early.
Gamespot has Destiny for the Xbox listed already, and it's coming out June 2014: http://www.gamestop.com/xbox-360/games/destiny/108087
Yeah, that's typically true for game companies, but doesn't look to be the same for music software (unless you're IK Multimedia, but I disgress...)
Typically, it seems that the 'cat' is let out of the 'bag' in this manner:
Some sharp-eye or curious researcher ends up seeing the pre-sales artwork posted. Then another reader sees the ad or announcements in the early editions of music magazines. More and more disclosures occur. Then the mysterious video promotion 'trailer' will come down, whipping the dedicated minions into a frenzy. Then finally, the official press announcement (usually on Fridays) will come out, almost as an anti-climatic event.
Just speaking for myself, it's clear that X3 is coming shortly, probably before the end of the year. I don't see how Cakewalk could hold out much longer and still try to make it before the critical holiday sales season. Most other major DAW's have had an update this year, so, it would seem it's just Cakewalk's turn.
