OK, I'll hawk Jim's services for him.....
 
For a mere one hour consulting fee, Jim solved my problems having to do with firewire.
 
I recommend stronlgy that you might want to consider trying that first if you can afford it and you are stateside.
 
Jim's rates are reasonable.

Absolutely.. the best audio interface is the one you do not need to buy.

I have had flawless results using a Tascam 1641. Should be ebayable around $200. be sure you get the drivers. However, if you have the cash, I can strongly recommend Universal Audio Apollo, which will require a firewire 800 card. No latency. Extremely flexible. Top-end pro.
