Browsed the Calkwalk blog.... found a cool article on ducking.
So I did it..... have a drum beat send to PC4K S-Type Bus Compressor module on an audio track of a synth pad (just audio....no vst generating the sound).  Listening to it. Sounds cool. But.... when I mix down (fast bounce, or no fast bounce) the Ducking trick is not functional. Side chain not triggering. No compression pulsing. 
So, works in the project playback (only after I start playback for the second time), but not for mixing.

ah.... more detail...
The triggering bass drum is audio.... not a synth vst.
 
When I open X2 and open the project and play it for the first time the PC4K S-Type Bus Compressor module triggering from the bass drum does not work.  If I stop the project, rewind, and replay it works everytime....without fail.
 
Huh!

When you say bouncing down, what exactly do you mean?  Exporting?  Bouncing to tracks?
 
If you select the drum and the guitar rack and bounce them both to tracks it will work.

Sorry.... when I export to wav the mix the compressor side chaining is not triggering .  Tried soloing the tracks.... no go.  Tried audible bounce (exporting selection).... no go.
Fast bounce is an export selection option. Same with audible bounce.

Can you replicate this behavior is an entirely new project?

Just tested that... exported only the bass drum and synth to wavs... imported them to a new project and set up the side chain for ducking.
Same issue.  Also, tried swapping out the bus compressor with the PC4K S-Type channel compressor.  Same thing.  Compressor side chaining won't kick in until I play the project through to the point where the side chaining should have started, stop the playback, rewind, and then when I start the project for the second time the side chaining works (and will continue working).
Still not functional during export to wav process.
Anything else I should try?
It's a basic X2 setup, running fine on Win7.
I can package the new project file and send in, if you like.  Small size

I'm not sure its a project thing at this point. Lets take this to PM so we can pull up your account stuff and get it logged. The forums just have too much volume and things get lost.

FWIW, this is working for me in X2a, first time and every time.

brundlefly (Dave the Man) help figure it.... so we [he] solved the issue...
 
the CW blog says to mute the track (the track with the send to the other track compressor).... think that muting the track causes it not to be factored into the bounce engine (export to wav).... so... solution was to unmute and turn the track volume down.  The send is prefader and set at 0.0 so the compressor on the target track still fires. Yay.
