As noted by the others and as I said elsewhere this has a nice head bobbing groove and the vox sits nice in the mix.

THAT'S what i wanted,
a head bobbing groove,
that was kind of familiar, but not....
thanks for telling me this

Another favorite of mine Rob! I love the groove you have in this one.

The bass is a large part of the recipe here. My only nit which is very small is that on decent headphones the bass doesn't quite fill the low end at the bottom. I think you might have tried so hard to minimize the boom that the bass is mostly in the mids. Just a guess.

The other guitars and vocals are dialed in perfect in my opinion

I would call the groove more progressive...not really a funk vibe IMO. I think this is mostly due to the interesting variation...this ain't no loop. It shows that you are a sophisticated player...but it also keeps it from being more funky. I love your style of playing.

so, a little background on this particular track:

the drum track is actually an old '99 Zoom 123 drum machine. which has like 80 kits....
this is the machine i was telling bitflipper about when he was hunting for an older machine.....

it had something on it called "rap/hip hop" and "technobeat", and i cludged two of those kits together with a very basic pattern,
and then wrote the arrangement with the bass guitar,
adding the electrics later.

this was an instrumental to start with,
but the vocal melody was always in there, somewhere

guitars are all my old Carvin DC200K with the kahler trem on it,
thru a pod Xt.

keys are a B3 organ patch thru the pod xt as well.

bass is a Carvin LB70, into a sansamp bass DI

I just about love this near to death.  Don't change nothing!!  It's FAB!!  If, as someone said above, this is a change for you...CHANGE IS GOOD!  Full yard squat...five golden orbs...Doghouse's highest rating.  Woof!

yea, i understand that 'progressive versus funk' thing....
i'm playing finger style,
and the only thing that repeats, is the drum machine...

i did some aggressive rolloff on the drum machine track,
because it has tons of sub bass, that i really do not want....
but i took some of the bass guitar out low too,
because of buildup...
i'll look at putting some back in.
thanks for the critique

Really great song, production, mix. I can really jack this up in level.
Interesting that the best bottom balance I can achieve on my end is turning up my subwoofer a little more than normal to get the kick and bass a little more punchy. W/O that, the bottom is a little shy on my system.
But... the mix sounds REALLY good in my ATH M50's so it must be my system.
The clarity of the vocals, guitars, and drums is killer considering this is coming from SoundCloud. I think you have a secret trick to do that.

Love the tune.

appreciate the critique rimshot....
it's hard to say the bottom is 'correct' when you get conflicting reports.......!
half the guys say bring it up, the other half say it's right...
i think it probably needs a bit of bottom push, maybe at 80hz, i'll have to see where the kick is happening.....

ok, this one is gone, already working on the tweaks
