Ok. There is one guy in Presonus forum who had tried out successfully N6 rewire midi into Splat. I got my answer.

Please post back about your success.  If this is really working, I'll update from N5 at the next sale.

I just tried and I can see Notion 6 sending  one bus worth of 16 midi channel into Sonar.
Start Sonar first and open Notion as rewire. In Notion set the instrument channel as external midi and at preference set midi out as loopbe. In Sonar's preference enable loopbe and set your vst midi in as loopbe.
BTW, I have Studio One Artist and it will work with N6 the same way the Pro version does.
BobF, I would recommend you try that with N5 first. N5 can send external midi out and will follow Rewire transport control. If that is all you need the I had just save you 50 bucks upgrade fee.
N6 however can be a rewire host and send midi to Reason, Reaper and Live. (I have not tried these yet so please don't hold me to that).

I've seen the loopbe technique before.  I'm interested in direct communication.  I guess that didn't happen
