You can't get rid of it if you don't want it anymore, which makes it even more expensive. Same with EastWest. Embertone allows transfers though.

Bohemian violin is the one that the folks at VI-control rave about, and they can be a picky bunch regarding sampled violins.

I own Friedlander and it's a good one.  It seems Friedlander requires a little bit more tweaking whereas Bohemian is easier to play right out of the box.

I have a 4 Embertone solo strings and the two Virharmonic.

Embertone is my go-to for pretty much everything. They are solid instruments and sound amazing in a mix. Plus, the total control you have over all the different aspects of the instrument make it very versatile.

I got Bohemian because of the raving people did on VI-C. It's not a bad instrument but it's incomplete and won't be finished for quite a few years it seems. Not only that, but it doesn't sit well with other instruments because of how expressional it is. That's not a bad thing, but it limits it's use because it really doesn't play nice with others. That is where Embertone really shines at and why I use it so much.

Just be aware that Embertone takes a bit of tweaking to sound right. You'll have to do quite a bit of editing once you have the notes down but the results you'll get are impressive.

I didn't bother with the East West solo strings. Fool me once, shame on you... Plus, that thing sounds flat as hell.

I have EW Solo Violin, and there are some "odd artifacts" in some of the samples...

It sounds "OK", but just ok....

I just got the 8DIO Solo Violin Designer.  It's interesting.  It uses "Phrases"
to build a Solo Violin Part...so it's a different way of approaching a solo...

One of the best Solo Violins I've heard is the one in EW Gypsy.  That one is
very nice.  THAT one should have been the "Solo Violin" they released as "Solo Violin"
IMO.

I've heard nothing but positive things about Friedlander, and it was just on offer for $65
on KVR, and am broke...and it sold fast (go figure)

Still have yet to find the "one to rule them all" my precious!

Personally I'd go with Embertone and their strings. Or then if you have the cash I might consider this: http://www.spitfireaudio....cconi-strings-quartet/

And bloody hell how could I forget this one if you just look for a violin: http://www.spitfireaudio.com/shop/instruments/strings/pp016-artisan-violin/

Spitfire Audio does also have the older Solo Strings bundle and while they have a really wonderful sound they are wet as hell. There's nothing wrong with the sound of the Air Lyndhurst Studio, but when you can't really tone down a room it becomes a bother.

Wow! The Audicct one is on sale too! I might as well pick it up :p I wi'll soon have purchased an entire orchestra today in its individual parts!!

Cheers guys, I appreciate and enjoyed all the input here.

I got the bundle from Embertone and have tested the Violin. However, a sudden 5- hour overtime took my evening away. But first impression was as expected. Lovely sound, very versatile and yes, it will require tweaking. But I think I can get a whole lot of great sounds and detailed performances from this, which seem to be impossible with many of the other violins I have tried. So far so happy!

I really like the sounds of the bohemian but I try to avoid getting more plugins to play back my libraries. I'm down to Kontakt and Play and I will try to stick with that. When I grow tired of the two to three violins I bought today, however, the Bohemian is very high on my list ;)

I don't think there is "one to rule them all" but I am happy with the refreshing of my sound palette today. I can't wait to work them into our new album!
