Automap doesn't need to auto detect X2 to work. Just set it up like you set up X1. If you don't have X1 and the built in guide to help you, do this:
Open preferences in Sonar and select MIDI - Devices and check Automap MIDI in both Inputs and Outputs
Then go to Control Surfaces and hit that yellow star thingy button and select Novation Automap Universal from the dropdown. This will only be available when Automap is installed. Make sure the Input and Output port is set to --None--. Done!
If Automap has scanned your plugin folder you should be able to tweak away until your fingers bleed.
The MIDI setup in Automap is actually a really nice feature. You select how many channels you need. active. I have two, one for Ableton Live (channel 1) and one for Sonar X2 (channel 2). When I press the "User" button on my Nocturne I can choose the one I need for the program I'm using. I have set up ACT to be controlled by the Nocturne and when Channel 2 is selected I can use the knobs to tweak the Pro Channel. Everything else is controlled through Automap. To me, this is perfect.
Oh, and when I enter "Mixer" mode on the Nocturne, it controls Sonar's mixer as well.
So don't worry about Sonar X2 not showing up in the setup guide, you just have to set it up yourself. And it's easy
