Hi guys, sound glitches here meanwhile sonar x2 producer is playing...i mean that while a song is playing and i move a pattern glitching appears under wdm or asio. The latency have to go above 1024 to save that counting that i have nothing in the project but 6 audio takes is too much. I've been having a look through dpc latency with latencymon and usbport is peaking the thing but only with sonar!!!, normally i have 200 microseconds which is perfect...I turned down all power options, windows and bios, optimized the pci bio settings and turned off serial ports, hard disks running under ahci... installing a usb pci would solve the problem?? Any idea??

Are you talking about moving MIDI notes in the Piano Roll while audio is playing? If so, increasing the preference for MIDI playback ("prepare using X millisecond buffers") can make it better, or less glitchy. I went from 250ms to 500ms, and it is better.

No, not in the piano roll, in the main window, and not a midi pattern, audio pattern...latencymon referred to usbport.sys as a highest reported DPC routine execution time 25563,8820 and dxgkrnl.sys as a driver with highest DPC total execution time...do i have to configure anything special in the graphic card or sonar preferences???? This only happens dragging and moving in sonar...

25,563µs (microseconds) max latency? Ouch. Yes, that will cause a problem. Overall latencies should be kept as low as possible, perhaps below 500µs.

I would see if uninstalling the graphics card drivers and reinstalling the newest set will help. DirectX is causing a huge lag. Nothing really can be done in Sonar preferences except for accessing your ASIO control panel to increase the buffer size in an attempt to counteract your system latencies.

Are you also experiencing a lot of audio dropouts and Sonar audio-engine stops? If so, then we need to get to the root of the problem, stat!  If not, then perhaps you're willing to compromise and look beyond the glitchy-ness while editing so as long as the rest of the audio, production and rendering process is good to go.

Prior to my current hardware configuration, I had a Gigabyte mobo that was the absolute root cause of some HUGE latencies internal to my system. Other forums reported the same thing, though sparsely. I ended up getting a different mobo (an Asus), and my system latencies are very low.

The thing is the usual latency is around 500 even less, the peaks start when i dragg a pattern in sonar exclusively while is playing. Without this issue the whole system is flawless, no dropouts, no stops... Regarding the graphic card, i already have the latest drivers except the last beta version...changing my mobo is a lot of money considering 2 xeons again, though asus Z9PE-D8-WS is a ring in my finger!

Do you think a pci usb card would solve the problem BTW?

Usbport DPC problems sounds like something connected to USB is spiking while you are dragging. Could it be some settings in the gaming mouse?

well, i don't have special settings on it nor a game profile...but of course the usbport.sys is referred to the mouse, that's why asking if a pci usb card would relief the problem...any ideas with this?

Still checking the issue...I've seen that the cpu rises at 40% usage when moving the mouse, but only in sonar...Weirdddddd!!!!!

I don't know if a PCI USB card would help. I have the same exact situation, as when I move MIDI clips (perhaps you can try this too), the CPU spikes, and as of right now by checking with dpclat.exe, I too notice that latency spikes up into the yellow when moving said MIDI clips. Weird. I never thought to use dpclat.exe to check for this issue.

Now...I am waiting for the arrival of a PCIe Firewire card for my particular setup. If things improve, I will let you know. Then, even though USB is a different bird, an "offshore account" of USB hardware may help the situation.

Doubt if a PCI USB card will change the interrupt structure that leads to those DPCs, except make it worse. I'm wondering if there is some way to go into the mouse configuration settings ("properties" associated with the driver you installed with the mouse) to make it less aggressive in sampling the mouse position or generating interrupts when the mouse moves.
