I export to 320 mp3's to get the best quality and then to CD and they play fine on the computer and in the car but won't play on my Sony stereo or a sony boom box.
Is there another format to make these work?

How about CD format?

Not all CD players can play MP3 CDs. Usually, unless the CD player says "MP3" somewhere on the player, it won't play them. Usually older CD players won't work. MP3 disks are data disks, not audio disks so it requires a different kind of player.

I don't see a "CD format" in the drop down list. Does it go by another name?
Other than that, or as Dave indicates, buying a new CD player, it means coming up with another way to audition my songs on various systems. 
I guess I should get an mp3 player and some external speakers or figure out how to make it play thru the stereo.

In a way its sort of funny. CD format is the way music is placed on a CD. CD players understand that format. MP3 came about after a method was made to "rip" CDs of their music. Now you are using a format that was not meant to be use by CDs, that is MP3 to play on all CD players and it wont work. Stick to CD-DA.
 
Sonar can burn a CD using the CD format. Going to the extra step of making an MP3 is unnecessary.

So to play on my various players I should be using sonar for burning instead of exporting to mp3?
I take it that would be thru Utilities/burn Audio CD?
I'd need to export to wav files in 16 bit first I think?

Yes, you need to have a suitable wave file for burning. 16 bit at 44.1 is CD quality.
 

Ratz, I have all mine in wav as well as mp3, in but 32 bit.
I will need to re export all 45 songs to that format unless there is a converter?

Yes dither is needed when converting down to a lower bit depth.
 
 

I use Media Monkey (there's a free version) to burn CDs. It allows 24 bit files as input (including FLAC files) for burning to CD.
 
I never investigated whether it applies dither because the convenience outweighed the answer for me.
 
I add that Media Monkey's MP3 conversion is not as good as Lame imho.
