FWIW, I'd think of touch as being an extension/addition to keyboard/mouse (not a replacement).
Zooming and scrolling are really intuitive using touch (familiar due to smart phones)

Regarding presets, I don't think Touch will have an impact either way.
Presets are great for templates...
But each scenario is unique
Think about AmpSim plugin presets.  If someone creates a distorted preset using a Tele with single coils, it likely won't sound "right" when applied to a Les Paul.  The starting points are radically different.

What was funny; I did not see Seth use one preset.

Go figure.

That is so last year. In the future mindmelds will be known as "mindmelds".

You'd better get a TM on that one McQ

I saw Seth Perlstein (remember him?) at the 2013 NAMM show demonstrating a 27ish inch touch screen using X2a. I saw him move faders, adjusting eq etc. No gui changes were required for that.

I saw the banned symbol thingy beside his name on one of his post. Still can't believe it.

The way many gui's are designed, I find it's often much easier to just move the knobs and switches than it is to navigate the cumbersome multi-tiered preset dropdowns.

But to me the greatest advantage of touch is the fact that touchscreen typing is so cumbersome that it will make trivial complaints not worth the effort involved.

touchscreen typing will cause new, and unheard-of, RSIs

I think Mike is talking about preset virtual faders/knobs what have you.  Move one knob and instead of raising or lowering the frequency setting of an EQ, it moves that and the curve.  Kinda like how some EQ's get a wider or narrower Q when boosting more.  Simultaneously moving various parameters according to some preset rules.

I don't think it would be more precise, necesssarily, than an EQ preset but shore would be fun.  I've always loved joysticks since the college days w/ a Synthi AKS.  I've got one of those novation keyboards w/ an XY pad today.  And I love using it to "play" Alchemy's performance pads - which is what I'm thinking about.

If I currently had a control surface I probably would not be nearly as interested as I am in touch. I was very interested int VS-700 some months back but reading the forums I didn't think I could justify that much money on what seemed to be an experiment. As it is without a CS I see the value of touch on 27" display as being very cost effective. Unfortunately, for the time being, I will have to wait for that implementation due to OS upgrade restrictions. However come the new year I plan on moving in the touch direction. I doubt it will have any impact on my use of presets. But I'm hoping to see improvements in my ability to mix multiple faders at once which is something I miss with mouse/keyboard implementations.

wasn't "touch" brought into the game to quickly adjust a knob or fader??? like something that you would do on a real device??? sort of intuitively?

I thought touch was introduced as a compromise to reduce cost and save space.

Seems that a redefinition of preset is being attempted here.
