  • How Many Inputs Devices for X2a Producer At One Time?!?!?

I have the Motu Ultralite3 and just bought the Roland Octa Capture and I was under the assumption that I could use them at the same time  but I can't is that correct?  I was under the assumption that if the computer can see both of them and X2 can see both of them then I should have access to both inputs at the same is this possible or am I doing something wrong?

ASIO only allows one at a time.

You could try WDM and it might work, but be prepared to switch back

You can only use one device using ASIO drivers at one time (exceptions sometimes if they are from the same family/manufacturer) but can use more than one when using WDM drivers - you may run into sync issues though even in the latter case.

Thanks I am glad to know that I am not doing something wrong, kind of a bummer now I will just switch back and forth

You can never use 2 different sound card for recording at the same time. The internal clocking (Sample rates) will differ and the timing will be off, even if there set the same.

BMOG, if you need more inputs according to Roland you can use two Octa-Captures in tandem, see here:

Or you can get a mixer and place it before the Octa-Capture, but personally I would go with two units for more control.

I hope this helps and good luck.

That is not true Mario. Putting a mixer before the sound card will not give you more inputs. Think about it.
You will actually loose inputs because you have to connect your mixer to one of the sound card's inputs.

Hmmm...

I have used WDM and multiple brand converters together with no problems... Yes, you must set one as your master clock and the other(s) to external... Using a dedicated clock is even better as typically they have less jitter...

The bigger problem is that many converters give both ASIO and WDM support, but often only stero WDM when giving both... If your interfaces offer full Multi-I/o with either driver, the system should work fine...

When I experimented with WDM drivers with my Motu Ultralite I got dropouts so I went back to ASIO drivers

My point was if a mixer with say 4 inputs was placed prior to the Octa-Capture one would have four inputs going in to one Octa-Capture input. Again like I said this is not the optimal way to go but just a work around.
