  • Layouts keep changing in X2 -- So frustrating

I have experienced an irritating thing with layouts in X2 I just can't seem to get around.  I use two monitors in my setup and I always have the track view on one screen and the console view in the other.  However, once I size my console to my screen and save the file, for some files when I reopen the file, the console has been resized.  I can't seem to be able to save the file so when I reopen it, everything looks the same as when I saved it.  What am I missing???

Thx, msr

It's unfortunate that Layouts don't take into account the size and position of the main window.  You need to decide whether you want to keep it permanently maximized on one screen or spread across 2 screens.

Hey msr,
I use the same screen layout as you do; TV on left monitor & CV/multidock (I assume) undocked on right.  I have no probs keeping the screens sized & located where wanted between different projects/files.  Are  you sure screenset settings are not being changed somehow between them (referring back to the default screenset)?
Best,

layouts are no longer in Sonar. What you are doing is changing the way a project is displayed and I think you expect that to apply to all projects as if it were the old layouts.

We now use screen sets which are project specific and are different for each project  However, if you save a project as you describe CV on one monitor and the TV on the other when you reopen it, it should have the same display as you saved it.

To make this your default save this setup as a normal template with that setup for the screens set. You can also load it into another project as long as both are open.

I was assuming that the OP was talking about screensets while referring to them as "layouts".  Maybe I was wrong.

Kev I'm not sure what he meant. Not once did he refer to screen sets. I think however he didn't mean layouts either. I think he meant the way he set up his views and his layout but not a layout.

Then again I could be wrong.

I can't remember if I saved it as a screen set or not but my screen(s) come up fine - tho sometimes they shift a little.

I have the TV on the (bigger) left monitor and have the browser on the edge of the right monitor.  The dock fills up the rest of the right (almost - I don't have either screen maximized).  That way I can flip though the dock tabs for a synth, effect or console or any editing screen.  Very convenient.

He could have the screen-set locked. If so then any change made would revert when the project is reopened.

If this is a the case you can click on the screensets dropdown and unlock the current screenset make your changes and then lock it again. I do not use multiple screensets my self but I have found that setting up my preferences and then locking the screenset makes sure things start up the way I expect.

I appreciate all the feedback.  I understand the thing about X2 now using screensets.  In fact, I tried locking my window arrangment as a screen set and that didn't work either.  Basically, here is what I am experiencing.  If you open up a project, and then say open up a couple different windows.  Say you have the track view open on the left screen and the console view open up on the right screen.  Then if you open up another window, like event view it will plop on top of whatever else you have open.  Then if you were to save the file then and there, close it out, and open it up again, all of the window positions should still be the same as they were when you saved the file.  Right?  Or am I misunderstanding how the new screensets in X2 work?  In any case, this works with some files and not with others.  I just can't figure out why.
