  • Exported song is too long... (p.2)

What I always do is create Start Export and End Export markers in all my projects

Yet anouther work around, but start and end export markers sound easier than exporting then trimming.
Dave has a good point on why I don't want to select a bunch of clips.

I could use the work around but I think if anyone wants to persue this thread I would like to solve this mystery.

I selected all midi tracks and opened the event view. I looked at the end and found no times that were past the end of the song time.

I should note that the scroll bar at the bottom of the track view is only about 1/2 the way across when it get to the end of the song. I can keep scrolling thru a lot of blank stuff.
If I hit hte "go to end" button next to the play button I go to the end of the last clip.

Is this just a software glitch?

Enjoy

When I upgraded to HS 6 xl the using markers to define the length of the audio export stopped working.

If I had at any time had an audio track that was very long. It somehow leaves some sort of event that will not allow me to export the correct length of the song. I get alot of dead space at the end of the exported file. I checked for archived tracks and I have checked for envelope nodes etc. nothing seems to be out there.

Any other things I can do to fix this issue?

If it helps any, this happens to me all the time and yes, it's aggravating! The only way I've found to trim off that silence is to do it after I've converted the tracks to audio. I'll be watching this thread to see if there's another way. Glad you brought this up!

View-Navigator will show you if there are any events out past the end of your song.

Clipping the mixed export file will have to do for now.
For anyone else who is try to fix this issue, when I View-Navigator, no events are shown past where the song ends but I am able to scroll much further into empty space. Also when I play the file on a CD player there is a long silance after the song.

I was digging thru the boards because I was having this problem today...and what I found was that there was an added node on one of the dotted lines of an envelope. It was far off to the right and small so i did not see it at first. Hit the 'go to end' button and you should see it. The node doesn't 'count' as an event but it still will keep the track playing until it reaches that point. No help to the OP years later, but hope this helps someone in the future.

This might be worth suggesting as a cure to this problem if anyone is scratching their head having tried previous suggestions on how to solve the mystery of the unacceptably long export:

I just had a totally dumb moment... after 20 minutes of frustration and nearly throwing the computer out of the window because export was taking that long, i suddenly realised i was exporting to a usb flash drive plugged into my computer, instead of to my internal SSD, or external 7200rpm HD as i normally do. Changing the files destination to my external HD instead of the USB stick was the cure. What was taking 20 mins to get to only about 15% completion happened within the thoroughly more acceptable 20 seconds!

Hope this helps anyone who may have made the same mistake.

This is years later, but....  Having the same problem until I read cwestmont's post

I too had a coup;e of nodes out at the 6 minute mark that was causing the extra 2 minutes of empty space on mixdown.   Deleted them, and empty space was gone.   Thanks so much for ending one of those wonder periods a mad frustration

Had this happen yesterday, turns out there was a tiny tiny sliver of a clip, barely visible, probably left behind from some editing that wound up far out from the end of the song somehow, so expanded it and deleted it and problem fixed.  treesha
