RE:Craftsman
A while back I felt the death knell when I took a Craftsman tape measure for replacement and they had none and substituted another brand
I guess the term "Lifetime Warranty" was used loosely, eh?
Heck ... all you gotta do is sell that part of the company, even to your daughter or son, and the new company is no longer responsible for that warranty.

Usually when a brand is bought the new company assumes the responsibilities of the old. That is a common practice used as a poison pill against hostile corporate takeovers. The present company will offer outlandish guarantees or pricing or something knowing the suitors will have to honor them. I have almost wondered if that is what CW may be doing with the free lifetime updates - not that I'm complaining...
Recently Craftsman had gotten so selective in what they would cover under the lifetime warranty that it may no longer mean much. Even at that, I found it was not worth it to me as I would have tools 'borrowed', stolen, or lost before getting to use any guarantee.
