Please look at my post about what I used, and it works!
It should be in my 'recent posts' on my profile.

I found Aaron's Sonar MP3 Patch and it works great. I don't have the link but it should be easy enough to find. I found out about it here in this forum. Never had a moments problem with it.

It's freeware by the way.

Check this thread....

That looks really interesting.  I've installed it and will give it a spin.  I've never managed to get Lame working in X2 (worked fine in 8.5 though).  No idea why; I've followed the instructions in a number of threads on the forums but it always fails at the very end of the export stage even though the export options are available, so I assume I've set it up correctly(?)

I can't believe people will pay $400 for Sonar, but then whine about forking out $20 for the MP3 encoder.

That's a good point, but I seem to recall comments that the Sonar one isn't all that good.

Is it as good as anything out there ?

I can't believe people pay $400 for Sonar, and it doesn't already come with an MP3 encoder.

Please let me know which other DAW's charge for this functionality.

It is LAME 3.97 or if you grab the update I pointed to above 3.98

I used to use an external MP3 encoder, but a couple of years ago, I finally coughed up the $20 for theirs, and it has worked for me with no issues whatsoever.

I found no difference in using that versus my external one, and it is simply built in to the export process now, so I like its ease of use and results.
