Best Deesser?

Ah yes, mankind's eternal problem...sibilance.
Like a bad penny, I just can't seem to get rid of it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've got the Fabfilter one which is regarded as the best but to be honest use volume envelopes to de-ess. Pensado says to look out for "little football things" at the start of phrases and pull the volume down on those.

I was hoping not to have to go in and manually adjust every instance of sibilance, but it looks like that's the plan. I've been obsessing over this vocal track for 3 days already; I guess another day won't hurt.
Thanks for your help.

SONAR Producer bundles two plugins with deessers, the VC-64 and VX-64 maybe one of those will work for you.

The de-esser on the vx64 works pretty well. Waves Renaissance de-esser works well too.

Another vote for the VX64 if your using all sonar plugs. Its quite good and can be tuned to the specific offending frequency.

Keep in mind it's a question of how much to de-S. You need some. And some reverbs are worse on it. Consider also trying a different verb on your vocal than on the rest of the mix.
Also remember the twisty nob (screw) on the CA-2A that impacts sibilance.

I'm having some success by first creating volume envelopes and lowering the offending passages, then adding a Sonitus multiband compressor set to lower the specific frequencies of the sibilance. But before I record any more vocals I need to read up on mic techniques for avoiding this plague.

I find sibilance is sometimes caused by excess compression.
Backing it off a bit can help, in some circumstances

I like this thread. Have a lead vocal that's not just doubled but tripled and it seems I have picked every word in the dictionary beginning with S and ive also sung it like a snake. I'm liking the volume envelope tip, am gonna try this first.
