Audio Interface (or internal sound card, whatever you are using) How do I check this?
Audio interface driver version, Sample Rate and ASIO Buffer Size (might be in milliseconds)
Sonar Sample Rate - How?
Sonar Driver Mode - How?
Sonar reported latencies - How?
Sonar Version (X2 or X2A) X@
Sorry for the unanswered questions I am kinda new to this.
It sounds like you are relying on the sound chip inside your computer, as if you had a dedicated audio interface you would likely be well aware of it. If that is indeed the case, then you may not have enough horsepower in your CPU to handle the analog/digital conversion that is normally handed off to a dedicated audio interface. That conversion work is very CPU intensive, and it usually leads to crackles and dropouts. A dedicated audio interface takes on that responsibility, and it leaves the CPU free for other tasks.
There is a wrapper program called ASIO4ALL that you could download and try, but my advice to you would be that if you want to really do music production, with a tool like Sonar, you should consider picking up a dedicated audio interface. ASIO4ALL does work for some folks, to what extent I cannot say.
Here is a link for a page that explains how to use ASIO4ALL, and there is also a download link on the page. You can start with this and see how it goes, but I think fairly soon into it you will likely outgrow whatever ASIO4ALL could do for you. Still, might be worth a shot for now.
