  • X TOO::: My most important desire: reasonable folder structure, consistancy

Minimum changes:
I want the CW dudes to restructure the CW folder structure,,, to reflect the ease of user's ability to create backups of projects.

I want to select ALL folders' default settings during install. I want to be able to change the SHARED folders paths.

                    CUz    I DO NOT WANT to install    X-Too   into the same folders as  X-One, and 8.5.
I want to select ALL samples locations for ALL instruments.

I want to select where presets and synths programs will be located.

I want an in-program dialog that lists ALL, ALLLLLL, ALLLLLLLLLLL  of the related folders.

I want the browser, and DP, and rapture,..., to obey the user's selections of folders.

I want ALL programs to use the user-defined folders for presets, programs, and files :

    currently choosing "SAVE-AS"/ OPEN for Dimension Pro, Rapture,...
           opens to the last folder browsed by Windows Explorer: this should not happen
=================
SO:::

Where are your user-saved presets? For: DP, rapture, other synths/effects?    I ATTEMPT to use D:\AudioPresets.

What is your backup process that includes ALL presets/programs  (for synths, effects, sfz/sample files), wavs, loops, samples,...   ????????

Are you getting everything that you will require to move to a different computer?
Including the crap stored in the registry?

Currently, a default install will put stuff into the folders/subfolders listed in the lower "half" of this message.

This structure is no doubt the result of many years of people not paying attention in a hurry.

FIRST remove the "SHARED " prefix. A local example of what happens when no adults are paying attention, a period of "profound distraction."

(Way sad the "MY " mental-virus continues to pervade the general language/thinking. Reinforced recessive gene?   NO doubt we are doomed to endure "My Computer," "My Apps," "MY " ABSOLUTE ****ING IDIOCY until at least 2030. The predicted year of my death.)

================================

This folder structure is reflective of a default installation of X1-X1de, and extra downloadable bits.

No doubt, this folder structure is the result of historical attempts to be reasonable. But now?  No so much.

This needs a complete makeover.

Generaly a very  user un-friendly configuration.

The whole architecture of operating systems seems to be based on a big mess of files and folders. Would be nice if there were some standards introduced to try and refine things a little.

But yea, Cakewalk really could do some spring cleaning with Sonar.

Yup, defo could do with tidying up and restructuring in a more intelligent and accessible way.

I'd be happy if when I want to open a project or create a new one, Sonar presents me with the last folder I referred to and not this deeply hidden folder in my user account that I never use and I then have to dig myself out of it before accessing my usual projects folder.  Every time.  It's painful.

Have you tried setting the "Project Files" in Preferences > File > Folder Locations?
