There are quite a few MCU Pro & XT owners on here who have observed their faders not moving smoothly during automation playback. I suggest you head over to www.mackie.com and download the latest 4.0.3 OS update. Then try your automation again. You will be shocked by the improvement.

Hi, guys, got that update in my mail,
Follow the instructions on the PDF, but no go, nothing, no dancing dots...

I can't seem to get the part 6. since it's opposite to the part 4. "disable MCU as a midi..."

Maybe I'm misunderstand, missing something, Midi is my weakest part, and I'm working on it...

Thanks for any input

Hi Rich. I found I had to go into Preferences and remove the mcu (and also the xt if you have one) from the list of control surfaces. Or you could set the midi input and output to none. Then still in preferences, go to Playback & Recording. Near the bottom of this screen is an item relating to sysex banks. Make sure it is unchecked. Then close Sonar down and power cycle the mcu while holding down rec ready of tracks 1 and 2 and track 1 select, as described in the PDF. Now you can reopen Sonar, load the midi file in, set the track's output to your mcu and you should be good to go. Your dots should start dancing upon pressing play. Don't forget that now means clicking Sonar's play icon or pressing the spacebar as your mcu is not working as a control surface any more.

When the update is done, go back into preferences / control surfaces and reinstate the mcu's midi input and output settings. Finally, tell the mcu to operate in Mackie Control mode and you'll be back to normal.

It's my understanding that this is for the version 4.0 controllers and extenders?  I have a mixed system with a version 3.0 MCU and extender as well as another version 4.0 extender.  I'm standing pat for now.

Mod Bod - You're quite right. According to Mackie you need to have at least v4.0 and the Alps faders.

Rich - Glad to be of service. I must admit it took me a while to figure that out, but it was worth it!
