Hi Guys,

I have X2 and 8.5 Producer on the same machine.  While I'm working with an X2 project I save constantly (mostly because X2 crashes constantly, tonight it crashed when I tried to load a Cakewalk flange fx).  When X2 crashes rather than saving the project as an X2 file (even though I saved it previously in X2) it saves it as an 8.5 file!  When I try to open the file in 8.5 I get the message that the project was created in a newer version of Sonar and it won't open.  If I try to right click and open the project with X2, it won't.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

Are your Sonar installs 32-bit or 64-bit?

Are you loading a 32-bit Flange effect into a 64-bit X2?

This sounds like a 32-bit plugin problem, but that is for the moment a guess.

Please supply more information on the nature of your installed Sonar versions, as well as the nature of one of these projects that is crashing.  (what plugins are you using, are they mostly audio tracks?  midi tracks?  Both?  etc.)

Thanks, I'll try to assist you.

You could try opening the project in safe mode. Hold the SHIFT key while opening the project.

You mention opening the file with a right-click so I'm assuming you are opening the file through Windows Explorer. If that is correct, open Sonar X2, then File | Open and navigate to your project. If that works then you need to change the default application associated with the *.cwp extension to Sonar X2 not 8.5.

Hello All,

Thanks for your replies.  They are all deeply appreciated.

Bob, to answer your questions:
I'm running 32 bit on a 64 bit machine (I originally installed 64 bit but it never would open, so I uninstalled and installed 32 bit).  I'm using only 32 bit commercial plugins (Waves, IK Multimedia etc.).  The project files that crash are fairly simple: a few audio tracks and a few soft synths.  maybe a totla of six tracks.  Each track might have one or two plugins.  I can look at my meter and see the project is only using about 3-4% of my processing power.  In my last crash I tried to add the Cakewalk flanger to my project and the whole thing hung up.

Thanks for trying to solve my problem.  I appreciate you.
