I suspect Cakewalk has something up its sleeves. If not, they should. Avid just announced Pro Tools 11 HD and Presonus has an announcement scheduled for 4pm ET tomorrow afternoon.
From Presonus:
On Thursday, August 29 2013, at 3:00 p.m. CST, (4:00 p.m. EST | 1:00 p.m. PST | 20:00 GMT) head over to www.presonus.com/videos/presonuslive, where we’ll dagger the cloak, tip our hand, and reveal the other players in our triumvirate. But what is it? - See more at: http://www.presonus.com/c.../#sthash.W1X2lQ57.dpuf
IMHO, I think the marketing landscape has changed. Case in point - IIRC, Apple is supposed to be announcing / showing their new lineup of iStuff on 9/9, a month before the products will be available. They are expected to launch preemptive strikes, contrasting their products with the Andorid offerings, so that consumers hold off on making hasty purchases from other vendors.
With Q, L, P, and the other S having new offerings, I am surprised that that we are not seeing anything from our Bakers, even though we may not see anything for a month. Granted, with vendors listed, no one was given a clue about what functionality might be included in the new releases, so there was some element of surprise, but surprise isn't what it used to be.
The announcement to port DP to Windows came long before it actually happened, but the announcement probably caused some folks familiar with the Mac version to take note.
Not everyone can afford to have mutliple ($199)$400-$500 DAW software. And bringing back users who have departed would take some miracle features or stability.
