I don't own an SPL Meter, so I plan to make a trip to a Music Store to monitor using one to see what the different levels sound like. I looked at prices, but $60 USD seems like a lot for something I bet I'd use once.

I'm not a pro. Just a hobbiest.

I'm also aware that I shouldn't be using the nob on my interface to control the levels on my speakers, but I do. My preamp for the speakers was burned out five years back now and I couldn't repair it. I've just done without. I run the line direct from the interface to the sub... then from the sub to the amp for my speakers. I control the volume with the nob on the interface.

Not perfect, but certainly adequate.

Thanks for the lessons, everyone. I'm not changing my behavior immediately, but I've definitely learned a lot!

gswitz,

I think this landed in the wrong thread...I could be wrong...

Awesome, thank you all. I think the device will arrive tomorrow so I will have to twiddle my thumbs until then!

Jonbouy's avatar is the alcoholic scoundrel and layabout Andy Capp. jonboyuk's is a cute kitten. Whatever this reveals about their individual personalities, I think we'll have no problem distinguishing one from the other, even if they change their respective pictures.

This is more confusing that routing in Kontakt.

Welcome to the forum.

Hello!

I'd say give 'em all a try (DAWs) - I've not seen one yet that doesn't offer a demo version.  Pick the one that suits you the best.

Haha, that's a genius comment bitflipper. I will give a few of them a go see which 'feels' right!

Welcome, Jonboy,

DAW's are funny things.  You can learn any of them, but one usually seems "right."   Sonar was that DAW for me many moons ago.  Logic wasn't, Cubase seemed a bit stiff compared to SONAR, etc. etc.  You know one DAW already, so give SONAR a ride.  I would install and register your free copy.  If you  like, you can test X2 and then upgrade.  The great thing about these free programs is it gets you into the Cakewalk family so you are eligable for discounts etc.  (not just Cakewalk, but all the companies do this).  I started w/ Cakewalk's Plasma (a looping software) that came w/ computer music.

Everyone in the forum has their complaints about SONAR as you'll see.  The thing is they are still here, so that sez something.

And we'll try not to get bouy confused w/ boy.  If all else fails, we can count the letters.  as long as it doesn't go above ten I'm ok (20 if I'm barefoot).

Welcome JonboyUK. I don't see us confusing you with anyone.

X2 Producer is the one to go with and will give you as much trouble as it did to the rest of us. After all it also includes the "kitchen sink". At least some think this is a good place to sell kitchens.

I just want to say - the quad capture has arrive and it's AWESOME!!!!!!!! It works perfectly on both of my devices under USB 2.0 & 3.0!

One thing I don't get is something with the latency. Any insight would be great.

- At a sample rate of 48kHz, I get a return trip of 5.6ms
- At a sample rate of 96kHz, I get a return trip of 4.2ms
- At a sample rate of 192kHz, I get a return trip of 3.5ms!

No hiss or pops or crackles (as long as I have 'Reduce CPU load' ticked).

I prefer 96 but I get a better latency when it's higher. Why would this be? Logic says it should be the other way around!

are the buffer settings 512, 1024 etc .. the same for all the things you changed ? you might find that is the difference.
