Hi All, so I'm drawing notes into the piano roll and when I go to play them back only the first note is playing, any ideas??  I've updated to X2a too.

This can happen for a few reasons.

For the sound patch loaded for the track who you entered the notes for, are these notes within the playable range of the instrument?  I think Sonar's decision as to what note is middle C differs from some synth vendors - maybe the outs are out of range?

Also, is it always the same notes that do not play?  (Perhaps there is a dropout issue - that could be a buffers thing, a driver-mode thing, etc.)

Can you please list your driver mode, your reported latency values, your sample rate, and your record bit-depth?  (And any other information you think might help).  Also, how loaded up is this project, with tracks and synths and whatever?  (perhaps too much is being asked of your computer to be able to keep up).

Thanks,

Also may want to check Preferences > MIDI > Playback and Recording "Prepare Using nnn Millisecond Buffers" value. If it is set to the default 250, try 500 or 750 instead.

Thanks guys all fixed, it was the buffer.  Funny that I've never had this problem before X2.

cheers Ben

For some reason Cakewalk reduced the default buffer size from 500 to 250.

Yeah - that single change to that default (for whatever reason) keeps biting folks in the buttockskis.

I would like to see that changed back to 500, or perhaps made robust enough to auto-detect issues and adjust itself (or at least suggest it in a message box or dialog box)

Even at 500, I lose some notes.  It isn't enough to be a problem, as I eventually freeze the tracks before committing to a mix.  And when I freeze the tracks, all the notes are there.

You could bump it to 750 and see if that resolves those for you.

I think the 250 default now is too small for some folks.  Anyways, it sounds like some progress is being made, so good luck.
