Congratulations on delivering a smooth, yet passionate vocal performance.  When it started, I was apprehensive because you de-emphasized the iconic bass line, somewhat, but when the vocal started, my worries disappeared.  You deserve an A for paying tribute to one of my childhood music heroes.

Agreed: it's the vocal that makes this cover work. I'd re-work the reverb on the vox, though. At least put a low-pass filter on the return.

Thanks for the kind response.  The reason for the bassline more being at the back is two-fold.  Firstly because of my own vocal register I had to record the song in F rather than A, and for me it didn't sound quite the same, secondly because of the VSTi's I have, I don't have an acoustic bass sound I feel could quite carry the song on its own like the original did.
 
But it is one of my all-time favourite songs, and Ben E King's recent death prompted me to try and do a version of the song myself. 
 
I do feel the vocals are a little too loud in the mix so I am going to revisit that and hopefully make it  a little more even.  I do appreciate the kind words!
 
I'm still in the learning stage with Sonar, having recently changed from Studio One Free as Sonar seemed to be the best option in terms of price and payment structure for me whilst giving me the features I wanted that I couldn't get in S1Free, such as third party VSTs and something useful like EQ!

You'll have to excuse the "noobishness" here, as I'm new to all the extra features, but I'm not sure exactly what you mean by low-pass filter on the return. 
 
I'll happily take any tips to improve my mix though, so if you'd be happy to explain a bit further I'll see what I can do with it. 

I've now remixed it. I've fiddled with the EQ settings so that the vocals aren't overbearing, the two guitar rhythm tracks are a bit clearer/cleaner and the bass has been emphasized a little more. I've also amended the reverb on the vocals.
All in all, I think this is a cleaner mix and I'm happier with how it sounds now. I've amended the link above so it links to the new version.

Late to the show.  A very enjoyable listen.  Very, nice sounding vocal track.  I like the way you have the distorted guitar but it is still a soft sound.
 
I have to say, your vocals are very nice.

I like the new mix. Vox sounds even better now!
 
Suggestion: in the original recording there's a small but crucial percussion element, a guiro, I think. I know you're not shooting for a direct copy of the original, but it's like the cowbell in "Don't Fear the Reaper" - you wouldn't consider covering that tune without including that much-ridiculed ornament.

Nice effort. Guitar seems a bit out of place.
