Hi,
I'm using a plug-in called Artillery II that needs to be configured as a synth so midi info can be sent to it.
Through the plug-in manager, I have selected 'configure as synth' and then did a re-scan, but it still shows up under the Audio FX tab instead of the instruments tab, and therefore does not insert itself into the synth rack when I use it.  So I can't send it midi data.

Is there a way that this may be cached or something as a VST effect?  In the plug-in manager, it shows up as a VST instrument, but not in X2.

I've tried on a new project as well, but no luck.

Thanks,
bri

Create an audio file. Insert Artillery into the fx bin of the audio track. Create a midi track, and set it to route to Artillery which should be an available option after you inserted it. Enable Echo on on the Midi track. You can alternatively insert Artillery into a softsynth's fx bin, drum machine, loop player etc. I don't have Artillery but have Effectrix. Works great.

Yeah, that's what I've done previously.  Problem is, because it's not being recognized as an instrument, it doesn't show up as an available routing option.

Hmmm. Maybe it needs a registry tweak as for this thread - pointed out by our friend Scook.

I doubt it needs generateEvents enabled unless Artillery2 is sending MIDI data. At least Artillery2 BE didn't. All I needed to do was set the "configure as synth", drop it in an FX bin and point a MIDI track to it for controlling the plugin. There should be no need to re-scan when toggling the "configure as synth" option the changes to the browser and menus is immediate.

Are you running X2a? If not, apply the patch. If you are, did you reset AND rescan your plugins after the patch?

Yup, scook is right.
  • Go to Utilities > Cakewalk Plug In Manager
  • Locate it under the plugin category columns
  • Highlight the plugin and select [Properties]
  • When this appears make sure "Configure as Synth" is ticked
  • Select [Ok]
  • Close Plugin Manager (your plugin should now be in the VSTi category)
  • Go to the desired audio track you want this effect on and right-click within the fx bin and go to Soft Synths > [desired plugin]
  • Add a separate MIDI track and you should be able to set it's output to this plugin
This is typically the process for any audio plugins that receive MIDI information. Hope it helps!

Dan - he said its not available in X2 as a Soft Synth using that procedure.

scook, I'm running X2a build 351.

I should have mentioned that I have had this previously working as intended and could send midi data to it no problem.  It's a recent development that it will not appear in the synth rack.

In the plug-in manager -> plug-in properties for Artillery II, I have 'configure as synth' and 'enable mono processing' checked as the only two boxes.   I've tried it with 'Enable as plug-in' both selected and unselected, doesn't make a difference that I can tell.  When I go to details from the same view, I see

'Is Synth:  No'
'Supports Event Input:  Yes'
'Supports Event Output:  No'

which is what I would expect.  I don't think the registry tweak will help, as it is not sending midi data.

I believe the plugin should have the following VST options checked:
Enable as plug-in
Configure as Synth
Enable delay compensation
Enable mono processing

The BE versiopn as Max used inputs = 2
The details you show are correct.

If those option do not work, you could try to RESET and RESCAN the VST plugins. Be forewarned that will undo any VST options customizations you have performed. Another option would be delete and reinstall the plug-in.

Have you added any other VST plugins recently? Are you using the default plug-in layouts?

Just tried the reset and rescan, although I was trying to avoid that.
Still didn't fix.

Then I deleted the entire thing, rescanned without the plug, reinstalled, rescanned, tried to put it in a new project, and it's still not putting it in the right bucket.  Arrrgh!  This is maddening.  I wish I didn't want that effect back in this song, or I would have rendered it while it was still working. :(
