Woohoo...I just saw this and I'd picked up a used iPad about a month ago.  Will likely be trying this out.

thanks, I am posted there too. Very weird.  I am using Ad hoc connection which does use router.  If it is required to have the DAW on a cable ethernet connection and use a router, that is show stopper.  My DAW is wireless and obviously the Ipad is wireless too. I checked firewall on my DAW and there is nothing blocked for Bonjour and Ney Fi ...all private and public networks are wide open. Hopefully the V COntrol folks can come up with something. Thanks all. JR

Here is a link to the instructions http://www.neyrinck.com/p...ol%20Users%20Guide.pdf

And here is what the instructions say about wi fi and ad hoc ..... Look at the last line ....

Setting Up a Local Network with Wi-Fi
V-Control uses the iPad’s Wi-Fi capabilities to communicate with your D.A.W. Please make sure the D.A.W. computer and the iPad are connected to the same local area network (LAN).
While you can get very good performance when wirelessly connected to your host computer, you can achieve the highest levels of performance in one of the following two ways:
• Configuring your host computer to use a "hard-wired" Ethernet connection to your local network
• Using a direct Wi-Fi connection between the iPad and computer.
o For information on setting up a direct computer-to- computer network on a Mac, see “Creating a computer-to- computer network in Mac Help.
o For information on setting up a direct computer-to- computer network on Windows, look online for information about creating an “ad-hoc” Windows network.

Midi Ox to the rescue...
Installed midi Ox and it could not open the V Control midi out port the first few times, kept getting an error.  Tried one more time to monitor port in Midi Ox and voila everything kicked in....beautiful.

Going to try and break it some more and see if I have fixed it for good or not.

So it was not ipad or IP or firewalls, good old fashioned midi port issue.

Thanks for all your help gents.

Good news!

It's an awesome app. I love tht I can get an actually full screen of what's on my monitors or switch back to fader control toggles.

I use it to record drums in the garage while my daw set up is in the bedroom. It's great.

Enjoy

It would be nice if Sonar jumped on the bandwagon and built a Sonar specific app :) Charge £5 or something small.
Just as a bonus, make it compatible with various daw's lol.

Like that Robin Williams movie where the coma patients all wake up and then go back into a Coma, my V Control is broken again and cannot get it to work.

Am on the Ney forums.  I see there have been other Win users who have had issue with the Bome virtual midi port drivers, usually a uninstall and re-install fixes it.  I think that because of so many installs and re-installs while I have been trouble shooting wireless there is some registry garbage keeping the midi in port down.  (midi out seems fine - I can see the Sonar midi LED on for the out port)

if any one has midi ox installed, can you tell me if you can monitor the midi in v-control port and see midi notes when you move a slider ??  Midi ox opens the port, but that is all, there is no traffic at all.  which lines up with what is happening in Sonar.

I don't know if you can get much better than actually having your sonar screen on a portable ipad to control things any where you can take the iPad with you in range of a wi fi.

It's a pretty sweet app

I mean ... There it is .. Your sonar program right there on the screen .... That's pretty Sonar friendly

I've been using this app since X1 but since my new PC doesn't have WiFi it's good to know about this option.
Thanks

Sad to say I got no help at v control forums or tech support, so I decided to take the plunge and paid the 4.99 for AC-7.  ( I am super impatient....) (also - full feature is 4.99 not 50.00!)

AC-7 came right up and worked first time.  Did not have to use an ad-hoc network or cable anything to anything else, all wireless through my router.   The midi port SW (RTPmidi I think ?)  works like a charm and the ipad and DAW found each other across my wireless router in seconds.  The basic transport and fader functions all work great and there is a rec button on all tracks and record start on the transport.

This will be awesome for solo recording when I get the Ipad mic stand.

Just want to let you all know of another option.

BTW..I am still convinced that I am seeing a midi issue....AC-7 looks exactly the same trying to connect to Sonar as V-Control.  I can see midi out of Sonar and midi into the app, but nothing out of the app and into Sonar.  Until I hit the reset button on AC-7 I do not synch up with 2 way midi comms. in AC-7.

That's typical with AC7 so I wouldn't worry about it. Once AC7 connects its been solid for me. But it can be a little flaky when starting it up at first. Sometimes it takes a minute or two until the reset button connects it to a sonar session. But then it works good for me. Also, you may want to configure the mackie control surface in Sonar to send meters. I think they are off by default.
