I just can't get a decent piano sound of any kind out of included Sonar plugins.

What type of piano sound are you after?

Really? Assuming you're looking for a real acoustic piano sound, have you tried the ones in Dimension Pro in the Digital Sound Factory Classic Keys folder under Grand Piano? I think the Concert Grand is pretty nice. Better than any real piano I could afford.

Have you looked at the Sonar sound pack for The Sound Center?

For the money... $20 .... The Steinway Grand collection is a nice sounding set of piano samples.

Everything else I have looked at and considered was more than 10 times that amount.  Of course, they do sound good.... Ivory would be on that list.  For me, a piano is mostly a background instrument and even the solo's are not super critical.....so CSC-SGC works fine for me.

1. What are you missing in the sound? What do you not like about the sound?
2. Explain what you have tried so far and what effects you added and the settings for those effects

Whats included in Sonar is definitely capable of making great piano sounds.

A lot of it is in the processing. Must be. I have all the Komplete pianos (including Alicia's Keys) and I can't get any of them to sound to my liking. I haven't really tried though (don't use pianos much) so I'm presuming a matter of the right EQ and reverb. Having said that I just bought the Waves Aphex exciter in the sale so I'm tempted to see what that does to them.

Agree here. The ones that come packaged in sonar in my opinion are NOT the best trupianos sounds.
I really like the Diamond version.
