I realize this is a long-shot, and I have put in a formal support request. But does anyone have any insight into why Amplitube 2 might be crashing Sonar (both X1 and 8.5).

It's a Win XP SP3, 32, dual core Athalon. Last time I check it was working fine. But in going through some old projects this past weekend Amplitube 2 will take Sonar out 100% of the time. I can create a blank project, make on audio track, with a piece of audio. Hit the transport and audio is processed as expected. The minute I stop the transport Sonar crashes. I did some searching through here and tried a few settings but nothing changed this behavior. I Amplitube 2 works fine with Live 8 and energyXT, so it is definitely a Sonar + Amplitube problem.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

do you have Melodyne Editor 1.3 on any of the projects that are crashing? Some IK Multimedia products and Melodyne don't play well together. I get an instant cash if I load Melodyne into a project that has T-RackS 3 plugins, or vice-versa.

Well, Ryan in support took a look at my crash logs and reports and whatnot and indeed it is an Amplitube2 problem. So, yeah, it's not a conflict with anything else cause I reproduce the crash on a blank project with one audio track, one bus and nothing else. Crashy, crash, crash, crash.

Never again, IKMultimedia. Never again.

Amplitube 2 is getting a bit long in the tooth now. version 3.51 is the current version and has been out for quite some time and also supports full 64 bit.

But having said that I loaded up Amplitube 2 which I still have (I keep all old versions archived) and it works fine for me in 32 bit with SONAR 8.5.3 and using jBridge in SONAR X1E x64.

NO crashy crash crash crash.

Honestly I seriosly doubt cakewalk will do anything about compatibility with an outdate product.  Updatinng to Amp3 would be your best bet.

I get what y'all are saying, but there's no way I'm giving IKMultimedia any more of what little gear money I have.
Ryan confirmed, and sent me the plain-text crash log to demonstrate, that it's Amplitube that is crashing Sonar: "Unfortunately, there's nothing Cakewalk can do to address this since it's an AmpliTube 2 crash. We also don't have debugging symbols for AmpliTube 2 to further analyze the crash. In this particular case, IK Multimedia would have to provide official analysis of the crash file."
I've been going back through Sonar projects that were first created in Sonar 2 and by and large, save a few SynthEdit or freeware plugins I haven't bothered to maintain, every project I have opened up. Yea for backward compatibility! You know the only company that consistently has software that fails? IK Multimedia. Somewhere in the SampleTank life-cycle they changed the plugin ID, so you couldn't have 2 version of the same VSTi but projects created with the earlier version didn't open any longer. Who does that? And it's a pretty crappy GUI, plus the proprietary nature of the sound sets is annoying.
Now this Amplitube issue. Still on Win XP. Still 32-bit. Some drivers have changed I'm certain, there is certainly new software on the system. But it is fundamentally the same. I don't think it's unreasonable that the software I shelled out for from IK work no more or less the same system I first used it on.
You know who gets my upgrade dollars? Companies that make software that works in the version that I bought. Companies that use upgrades to expand their vision. Not companies that pile crappy version on top of crappy version. While casting about for an answer to this problem I saw repeatedly endless problems people have with IKMultimedia softare. Including Amplitube 3. I am not alone in this. No way I'm shelling out, what? $179 so that I can hope that it might work.
Sigh. I'm glad it's working for others. I'll send IK the crash dumps and screen shots but I'm not hopeful. I don't see them fixing a software that's out of date.

I have this problem with sonar X2 on my XP SP3. My Sonar X1 Producer Expanded, with last updates, work great with amplitube 2. On Sonar X2 crushing when i press "STOP" Button. I install my Amplitube X Gear, and it work fine!
When you are intall amplitube 2 and x-gear together you can use all amplitube 2 presets on x-gear.
Try it? it's really can help in this situation. I don't know about Win 7. Sorry, my English... I am from Ukraine.

meh
I have been using Amplitude with X1 and X2 with no problems.
What is in the crash logs that indicate that Amplitude is causing the problem.  Is it a dll?

You could trying uninstalling, removing all registry keys with "AmpliTube" and try reloading. That is what I was told to do by IK after an update crashed my system on Amplitube3.

Get Guitar Rig 5 or Scuffham S-Gear.

And if anyone actually WANTS Amplitube3, I am more than happy to sell it at a discount (which is perfectly legal for IK products).

All my IK plugs cause Sonar to crash unless I run Sonar as administrator
