I get what y'all are saying, but there's no way I'm giving IKMultimedia any more of what little gear money I have.
Ryan confirmed, and sent me the plain-text crash log to demonstrate, that it's Amplitube that is crashing Sonar: "Unfortunately, there's nothing Cakewalk can do to address this since it's an AmpliTube 2 crash. We also don't have debugging symbols for AmpliTube 2 to further analyze the crash. In this particular case, IK Multimedia would have to provide official analysis of the crash file."
I've been going back through Sonar projects that were first created in Sonar 2 and by and large, save a few SynthEdit or freeware plugins I haven't bothered to maintain, every project I have opened up. Yea for backward compatibility! You know the only company that consistently has software that fails? IK Multimedia. Somewhere in the SampleTank life-cycle they changed the plugin ID, so you couldn't have 2 version of the same VSTi but projects created with the earlier version didn't open any longer. Who does that? And it's a pretty crappy GUI, plus the proprietary nature of the sound sets is annoying.
Now this Amplitube issue. Still on Win XP. Still 32-bit. Some drivers have changed I'm certain, there is certainly new software on the system. But it is fundamentally the same. I don't think it's unreasonable that the software I shelled out for from IK work no more or less the same system I first used it on.
You know who gets my upgrade dollars? Companies that make software that works in the version that I bought. Companies that use upgrades to expand their vision. Not companies that pile crappy version on top of crappy version. While casting about for an answer to this problem I saw repeatedly endless problems people have with IKMultimedia softare. Including Amplitube 3. I am not alone in this. No way I'm shelling out, what? $179 so that I can hope that it might work.
Sigh. I'm glad it's working for others. I'll send IK the crash dumps and screen shots but I'm not hopeful. I don't see them fixing a software that's out of date.
