I am a complete noob when it comes to synthesizers.  I am looking for a reasonably priced one or to know if there is one already in Sonar X1d.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

Pentagon I was included in Sonar 5, might be what you're looking for.
I'm a guitar player, not a "keys" guy (but I can play a bit in the key of C).
Get Cakewalk Synthesizers by Simon Cann, wealth of info for the synth challenged.

Sonar comes with a total of 15 softsynths. My favourite are DimensionPro, Rapture and Z3ta.
Z3ta is a very powerful softsynth. You can upgrade it to Z3ta 2(nicer GUI and 1000 more preset sounds). If you are looking for an inexpensive but awesome softsynth you can also look at Synthmaster. (ranked number 3 by MusicRadar).

There are also a bunch of decent free ones on the internet. My favourite is the P8. Many people like the synth1.
Also check out http://kunz.corrupt.ch/. This is actually Tagu Audio Line. They are famous for making some free analogue vst synth. Their Juno 106 emulation synth is the TAL-U-NO-LX. You can download their free demo.

Hope that helps.

Hi Tom,

You can do subtractive synthesis with Pentagon I, Dropzone, Dimension Pro, Rapture, etc. Pentagon I is a more direct approach with 4 oscillators, and all the filters, EGs, etc. laid out with on-screen controls. The others are a bit more involved with finding all the different parameters.

Doesn't Z3ta come w/ SONAR Pro?  I don't know how far down the list of versions the synths go.  Z3TA is my "modular" VA synth.

TTS & Cakewalk Sound center are in X1 essential..... but I've also had them since MC5. TTS has been in for a very long time..... it was in MC4 when I stated with that DAW.
