Hello.  I build a new computer to run Win 7 (64 bit), and upgraded to Sonar X2.  In testing the new software and computer, I loaded up the sonar Audio_Demo file, and pressed "play".  All I get is full-on digital static.

This is a new computer build, and I'm just now loading the software onto it, so I have limited testing resources.  The computer has an i5 Intel processor, I running Win 7 (64 bit), and Sonar X2 Producer.  The audio interface is my Mackie 1604 with Onyx Firewire Card installed.  I ran the Cakewalk Wave Profiler, and the Mackie inputs and outputs were all recognized correctly.

And I get only digital static on playback, both trying the CW Audio_Demo file, and some .wav loops I have.

Any suggests would be appreciated.

Hello.  I think I fixed it (hoping!).

In Preferences > Playback and Recording, I switched driver mode from WDM/KS to ASIO (if memory serves, I was using the asio drivers in my old computer).  Playback then plays the Audio_Demo file just fine.

As an aside, what is WASAPI driver mode?

Thanks for reading.

Yes, drivers are sometimes finicky and the quality of different drivers is not always the same. Plus, SONAR usually prefers ASIO. WASAPI is yet another driver mode http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WASAPI#Audio_stack_architecture.

Thanks, Scott.  I appreciate the feedback.

Interesting about Sonar and ASIO.  The Sonar documentation says always try the WDM/KS drivers first.  If memory serves, Mackie (makers of my audio interface) says their devices will work with both ASIO and the Windows drivers (WDM/KS)

Funny, MOTU seems to push the WDM/KS drivers too...
