SI's Bass Guitar is actually quite good! I was surprised the first time I used it just to sketch something really fast and I never bothered to replace it. Underrated instrument!

I also used to use the SI-Bass all the time.  I use Kontakt more these days, but still do call upon SI-Bass frequently.

Ilya Efimov's got crazy-awesome bass libraries for Kontakt.

At the moment they've got three different; Modern, Classic and Retro
and they're currently working on a fretless one that'll be released this fall.

Check them out: http://www.ilyaefimov.com/

I tried to suggest S.I. Bass Guitar on another forum, and I got the distinct feeling not many think it's very good, well I think it's fine,

Yes, its good, by far the best thing in Studio Instruments and very usable. - There are better solutions, but they cost a lot more money. My current favourite is Orange Tree's Rick, but at $99 and needing the full version of Kontakt to run its hardly a fair comparison. The same applies to the Ilya Efimov stuff Lopec mentioned, (that six string fretless bass looks like it will something!)

Some of the Dim pro basses sit great in the mix. I've had mixed results using the SI basses. To me they sound great on their own but need a fair bit of tweeking to sit nicely in my tunes. Its all subjective I know but try some Dim Pro presets.

Thanks scook, I'll remember that for next time. I did it the manual way in the piano roll.  Lassoed all the notes and moved everything up one octave in one swoop.

You can also use the transpose feature - process>transpose>select value (+12) in your case.
If you end up buying something else specifically for bass, Trilian is awesome....

Thanks Paulo. I'll try to remember that option as well.  What I really want is a Hartke sim. I LOVE the tone of a Hartke. I have a little Kickback 12 and and just yummy bass tones out of that thing.  It has an XLR out which I connected to and recorded, but none of the tone adjustments came though, it's just sending a dry bass signal.   Or, if there is a way to send a tone adjusted signal, I've not figured out how yet.
Suppose I could always mic it up and might have to when I get to a point that I have a bass line that I want to actually use in a serious recording. But for now, I'm mostly just trying to create backing tracks to play my guitar against
