Hello, I'm new to Sonar X1 and I'm having trouble finding my VST plugins.  When I go to Insert, Soft Synth, there are only four plug-ins listed.  I know I have more.  Guitar Rig 5 is not shown on this list or the list of FX plug-ins.

All the solutions I'm finding online say to go to Plug-in Manager, Options, create the proper plug-in path (if necessary), then "Scan VST Plug-ins".  I've done this.

I have the VST (*.dll) for Guitar Rig 5 located in C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins, as well as thirteen others plug-ins that Sonar does not display.

I'm running Sonar X1 on Win8 64bit.  I don't know if it matters, but I have the latest Pro-Tools installed.

Does anyone have a solution for me?  Thanks

Are you running the 32-bit or 64-bit version of SONAR? If 32-bit, then 64-bit plugins won't show up.

Its got to be something obvious so forgive me if this is teaching you to suck eggs. In your statement above you do not actually say you added C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins to Sonar's Plug in manager. You add folders to the scan paths by clicking on the options button under "VST configuration" in Plug in manager.

Also remember that some of Cubase's bundled plug-ins are "keyed" to Cubase and will not load into other programs.

What are those four plugins?

Did you run a VST Scan? You have to tell Sonar what folder the VSTs are in and then run the scan. It won't find any unless you tell it where to look.

I not sure if I'm running Sonar 64-bit.  I would have installed 64-bit if I was given the option during install (my PC is 64bit).  I'm not sure if my plug-ins are "keyed" to Cubase.

In my Cakewalk Plug-in Manager, under VST Instruments (VSTi), I have AGFx86, CakwalkSoundCenter, SI-Drum Kit, and Square I.  I did run a VST scan.

Under Insert (main menu), Soft Synth, I have the above four options as well as RealStrat.

For my Cakewalk VST Scan Paths, I have:
c:\program files (x86)\cakewalk\vstplugins
c:\program files (x86)\fxpansion\vst to rtas adaptor v2.11\vstplugins
c:\program files\steinberg\vstplugins

It does sound like you installed the 32bit version. If the SONAR executable is in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Your SONAR Version" it is the 32bit version. The 64bit version installs in "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Your SONAR Version". The "About SONAR" screen will indicate if it is the 64bit version on the line with the build information. The SONAR installer asks at the beginning of the install process which version to install.

In SONAR click on Help, then About and you will see if you are running the 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) version of SONAR. This is the first step. Then you can move on to determining if your VST paths are correct or not.

Ah, yes I am running 32-bit.

Should I go ahead and reinstall Sonar as 64-bit?  Or should I keep the 32-bit and install a 64-bit version?
