Long time lurker, first time poster.  This is something I finished up a couple weeks ago.  It's an instrumental (my singing would be a terrible thing) and it's a little on the long side (just under six minutes).  Any comments appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Ray,

I listened to A Walk Among The Stars.

As an instrumental track of almost six minutes I was expecting, at some point, to hear a blistering guitar or synth lead, or even duel, but a guess that's just a matter of taste really. I suppose it would not exactly fit in with the original intent of the tune, which, from the song description, is reflective.

It's certainly better than anything I could create using real instruments, for sure, so I feel bad even commenting to be honest. I'm currently working on a guitar instrumental so you'll see what I mean when I eventually get round to sticking it on SoundCloud.

cheers

Originally, was going to have some leads in the second half.  But as the song grew, they just didn't seem to fit.  ALso, I'm not really a lead guitarist.  I have some leads on some songs but they are usually played a small phrase at the time and then patched together, to form whatever sound is in my head.

Thanks for the listen,

You have recorded some nice backing tracks here, but that doesn't necessarily make it a song.  I'm sure that with a collaborator you could come up with something complete.  It has much potential, but for now, it's like a mannequin without clothes.

Might be worth making it downloadable at SoundCloud so that someone could have a play with it...

Ray, Yes, a spacey walk in an unlit sky other than a few stars to skip along to, but it needs much more for it to be complete and full. Your guitar playing and idea concept seem to be working well for what your trying to express, but more expression can open up a whole new atmosphere for your piece. I like lots of instrumentation in my work and there are many virtual instruments, loops and samples to help you in taking you work to new and exciting levels, so find them and use them. All things are possible.

Peace and Blessings, John

I like the 70's sound in your stuff. I guess I would agree that there could be a bit more instrumentation and expressiveness, but I like it.

Lots of good advice given above but I will add my own two pence.

It needs some other thing to bring it alive, Vocal or lead instrument, for that 70's sound it is OK but I would like to hear the kick, was there a kick?

What kit are you using?

Thanks for sharing.

I really like the double-tracked rhythm guitars and low guitar melodic hook. I agree with the above comments: it sounds like a great foundation that's just waiting for some missing element(s) to flesh it out. Another lead voice, perhaps, maybe some here-and-there hand percussion and other ear candy sprinkles.
