I was just thinking about the old rockers of yesterday after reading about the Desert Trip Concert in CA (Stones, The Who, McCartney, Dylan, Roger Waters etc...) and these guys are the last of the pioneers of rock music.
...
I don't look at them as "pioneers" in the sense of "heroes" or anything. Why? Because there is more music out there, and their biggest claim to that fame, was sales, not necessarily the music.
I would say they helped make the whole thing more visible, however, to consider them the top of the music, they aren't ... top of the pops is more like it.
I like Roger's adventure in "Ca Ira", with one exception ... he made a huge mistake not using an electric guitar and a keyboard, to help make his music even better in that thing, that sounded bland and boring, otherwise. In the end, of all the others, I would think some of them have abused their privilege as "stars" and are pushing the button in the wrong direction as far as "music" and its history is concerned. At this point for them, it's more about how much more they can bring home!
