The art of real singing is not dead.

Hi,

Nice. She does have a nice voice.

I really liked this version - love a 'capella music anyway (you don't hear it as much as you used to). I also looked at some of the YouTube videos that were commenting on the song. Some may have heard of Dolly, but never really listened to her music before, and now they were drawn in by it. I just love it when music is rediscovered for the first time.

This just goes to show the magic of a wonderful, timeless song. After watching this I looked up the particulars and it was originally released in October of 1973 (I had just turned 13), making the song now nearly 43 years old. And the song has been done by a wide variety of musicians over the years (take a look at the wikipedia article - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jolene_(song) ) and in a wide range of genres, with this just the latest rebirth of a great song. I think the Huffington Post had the best response when they said, "The song is like a beautiful gift that just keeps on giving."

Chills....  I've heard this song so many times and by numerous artists who thought they had a unique twist on it.

This is easily the best version of this song.

It'd be even more impressive if they did their own arrangments.  Does anyone know if they do?

Dolly's been at it for a long time. She's 70 now, I think. Plays multiple instruments, too. Go to YouTube and search on her performance at Glastonbury 2014. Pretty impressive.

How do you cover pop songs a capela and not do your own arrangements? Pretty sure there was no beatbox in the 1973 original.

I saw them working with a producer who was feeding them  parts,  so I imagine it's a little of both.  Not sure.  There's nothing wrong with that.  At the level they're working these days...they might not have time to work out parts etc.
