Creating drum maps in X2 really sucks!
I want be able to go back and forth between the Superior Drummer GUI and the Drum Map Manager.
As the Drum Map Manager is in the Preferences Window, I can't do that. You can`t get to any of the other Windows while the Preferences window is open.

Nope...won't let you do that.

One other thing that aggravates me is that the manual clearly states that when in the drum map manager...you can highlight a row for a drum sound and shift+ctrl+spacebar to preview the sound.  I don't know about anyone else...but this DOES NOT work on my system.

When editing a drum map I use this great software program called.......Excel :p

Also, you can use the small drum map editor, which opens by double-clicking one of the drums listed at left of PRV. IIRC you can access other windows in Sonar without closing this small editor.

This has definitely piqued my interest.

How are you doing this?

I guess you are thinking that I copy a list of drums from an Excel spread sheet and then paste it onto a text editor or something for the drum map manager at once but unfortunately it's not that. I just use Excel because 1) I use two daws so it's more convenient for me to first create a list of drums (by copying the original list from the drum library's manual if available) and 2) I can edit, if necessary, multiple drum names simultaneously by using commands in Excel. Once the list is created, I just press Alt+Tab repeatedly to copy/paste each drum name from Excel to the drum map manager.

I wonder if it's possible to use a text editor to edit drum maps in Sonar. It would really be helpful because copying/pasting one by one takes quite a long time.

A decent drum map editor is something that is long overdue.

A text editor would be the perfect answer - for me!!

Ah well, we can live in hope. Thanks for getting my hopes up

Maybe but the ability to simply solo a single track (in a multi-out drum folder) while using drum maps is even longer over due.

Don't understand?

Insert a synth (a drumpler such as Toontrack, Session Drummer etc.) and select multiple outs. You get a "drums" folder with all available outs of the drumpler. Now, setup the multiple outs so that you have Kick, Snare, Hats, Toms and OHs on separate audio tracks.

Use a drum map.

Now as the song is playing, solo the kick (or any other drum track). See? The entire song goes into mute.

The only way to solo the kick (or any other drum track) is to first solo the MIDI track in the folder or the folder solo button works too (which immediately does a "solo" of the entire drum kit) and then solo the desired drum track. It's currently a two step process to solo a single drum audio track (when a map is deployed).

So if you assume (broadstroke) that the drums folder is a "group" bus equivalent of a physical console, have you ever had to solo a group bus before soloing a track within that group bus. I'd say NO!!!!
