  • importing Garritan synth from Finale?

Hi all,

I just recently installed the Garritan VST synth plugin from my Finale installation into Sonar.  Worked fine, except when I do to play it (demo the sounds) before I use it, I get no sound.

Imported the DLL path just fine, and the plugin shows up in Sonar just fine, and I can open the VST plugin GUI itself and start clicking the keys and such.  But no sound... weird.  I'm sure that I may be overlooking something, but not sure what it might be.

Please detail the tracks you are using, both audio and midi, and what is routed to what.

You may be experiencing the return to 0 problem. There is a setting individual for each project where the synth will return to 0 when the playback stops. It's probably in the preferences somewhere. It says "return to 0". Just uncheck it.

This may be the problem but don't hold me to it. It happens with me and the Aria Player.

Thumbs up on the 0 controller issue. But, I also had to delete the plugin from the fx rack and re-apply it before it would work like it should for me. I don't remember too well because it's been a while since I dealt with that problem. Most of my work is my compositions and I don't use the controller reset much.

The Garritan sounds that come with Finale (GIFF) are designed to only work with Finale.  You'd need to upgrade to the full version of GPO4 to use them elsewhere.

Bob -- I'm don't have them routed to any tracks yet.  I'm just trying to demo and play around with it.  I can hear the other soft synths just fine  (like Session Drummer, and S1 String Section), when I open a brand new synth track and just click around on the drum pads or strings in the GUI.

Sidroe and Gtrpima,  I'll have to try that thanks for idea.

Bill - that's not what Finale support told me at all.  I spoke to them directly about this very issue, and they said I'll be fine just importing the DLL from the Garritan folder.

That is incorrect. I've been using the Aria player that came with Finale for a while now and it works great. Other than the controller 0 part but that's a simple fix.

Aria Player and GIFF are not the same thing. Aria is the player; GIFF is the sample content.  Are you saying you can use GIFF outside of Finale?

Anyone can download the Aria Player from the Garritan/MM website.  You don't need to own Finale.
