  • IK Multimedia plugs suddenly not working since X2 installed

Hi all,

I have a number of plugins from IK multimedia in my setup: Ampeg SVX, Philharmonik, SampleMoog, Sampletank, etc.  A few weeks ago, when I installed Sonar X2, every one of them stopped working, and not just in X2--I can't load them anymore in Sonar 8.5 and Sonar X1.  If I attempt to do so, the program crashes.

The plugs load and function fine in Chainer, a VST host that's well along in years.  Unfortunately, if I try to load Chainer into Sonar with the plugs inside it, Sonar crashes.  So there's one workaround gone.

I've tried re-authorizing the plugs, so far without success.  I've updated the plugs to the latest versions too.  I'm running all the plugs in 32-bit mode.

Anyone have an idea about what might be happening here, and what the solution is?  I'm especially fond of Ampeg SVX, and would prefer to keep using it.

Thanks, lightninrick

I remember that happening to me a long time ago, so I can't remember what I did specifically to fix it. I suppose you could try de-installing and re-installing the plug-ins from scratch, in case installing X2 modified them in some way.

Consider contacting IK, they may have heard of this happening before and know a fix.

 Hi,
do you have the latest version of IK´s custom Shop?
If not, update or install it, If yes, look in the cs for the "restore my gear " button, and
everthing should work as expected.
cheers

You need to install them using an account with admin rights. Also doesn't hurt to run Sonar as administrator. This is a real pain as far as I'm concerned.

Really? You can set Sonar to always Run As Administrator by right clicking the Sonar shortcut, select Properties, and on the Compatibility tab select Run this program as an administrator in the Privilege Level section. Then you never have to think of it again.

Don't see why I should have to run certain programs as administrator. Seems like lots of other applications don't need to do this. Why would Sonar/IK be special in this respect?

Also, seems a bit flaky that it causes Sonar to crash

SONAR itself does not require administrator access, some plug-ins however do need administrator access to the registry. The plug-ins were written to an older Windows standard.

To the OP - is there any chance your 8.5 and X1 installs were set to run as admin (as daveny5 outlined) but X2 not?

Make sure you download the most current IK Authorization Manager software, and be very careful about where you install it. I have had IK's older Auth Mgr fail without telling me why, ended up downloading the new one, ran into trouble where the old Auth Mgr was attached to the shortcut i was using, and didn't get it working till I deleted the desktop shortcut, searched out the new install, and used the shortcut to the new Auth Mgr to authorize my software.

IK phone support has been very responsive for me, as well.
