Nobody who's not a dope is gonna confuse a DAW with a Beemer and a set-top program

I've been flipping through my remote looking for a good B3 patch.....no wonder I couldn't find it . Uh-oh, I think I just let a skeleton sneak out of the closet.

Well - Cakewalk was very late with it's "X-ness"...

There is already an X, X2, a few versions of X3, AND a complete "Rebith of X"

Look here: http://www.egosoft.com/games/x_rebirth/info_en.php
Take a look at the side menu under "Games"... A lot of X here!

Now - I will admit it has not much to do with a DAW, but hey...... It's X isn't it?

Anyone feel the need for an Xlax?

This thread looks like it's the result of Xlax lol.

It's actually called X1 Platform and tbh, I am fed up of reading about companies bickering over a name or some other pointless ****. It's about time companies concentrated more on bringing quality products to the table, instead of wasting time over who's got the biggest market share and who got there first.

And this thread would be better suited to the coffee house.

Isn't X2 the same as dos equis? And it's the most interesting daw in the world.

X1 is just an edition identifier, not the product itself, the full name of which is Sonar X1. Even if it were the full name of the product, I doubt whether it would be a very strong trademark since the significant "name" part of it would be the X itself (the 1 is just a numerical indicator, implying the eventual existence of an X2, X3 etc). So there is a huge difference in trademark strength between, say, BP and X1. You can't imagine anyone getting very far trying to trademark the letter X.

The more characters you have, the stronger the trademark. So there aren't many trademarks of two characters (BP is a good example) but once you add a third, it takes off exponentially (ABC, BMW, CNN etc). You could have a strong two character trademark within a particular industry, so you're not going to get far trying to trademark "AP" if you're in the field of journalism, but if you're a plumber then the Associated Press can't really do anything to stop you using the name.

Then there was the famous lawsuit involving Apple Computer and Apple Records. The resolution was they could coexist as long as Apple Computer stayed out of the music business

I think they would have a stronger claim if they had an X2-B out in the market.

How many ACME's are there, Sonar's for that matter?

So on the OP's basis, Serif can sue the pants off Cakewalk when they go to X3 through to X7, and maybe X2 as well.
'X' is a roman numeral and as such cannot be protected.
