hi guys. i wonder if is there a way to stop the bad noise when i create an automation for the delay of "channel tools" fx?  when this delay is in use when playing my project, theres a boring noise while.
i tried to freeze it, bounce it. its still in :S
i tried to open channel tool.dll with savihost to fix the wave option to the asio of my cards.. still same thing :S

if i cant reply sorry but i dunno whats happening to this forum now. but i didnt have this prblem before. since new forum it have this problem.  and i think im not alone. ty

I've never tried to automate the delay parameter in Channel Tools, but I've run into several other cases of artifacts resulting from timing changes in plugins.

If you have ValhallaDSP's UberMod, try changing presets or delay values during playback - you'll hear some very strange things. That plugin's developer has said there is no way to avoid the effect, as it's the nature of changing delay values on the fly.

The Sonitus Delay has noise problems when synced to tempo and there are tempo changes, which of course also requires delay time adjustments on the fly. I found a workaround for that, which was to switch off tempo-sync prior to tempo changes. Clunky, but it works. The point being that it appears that changing delay times during playback will always be prone to noise and artifacts.

(Somebody's going to say: then why don't chorus plugins exhibit this symptom? They work on the very principle of varying delay times. The answer, I think, is that the amount of change is very small.)

Here's what I'd try (no idea if it'll help or not, just thinkin'): if your automation is gradual, try using jumps instead. This may still result in artifacts, but perhaps they'll be brief enough to not be audible.

Bitflipper is right, changing delay time in most effects will cause artifacts because audio is being buffered and spit out later. When you change the delay time, the buffer has to be altered and as it flushes old audio and loads new audio, you get the artifacts. Some delays are better than others in terms of varying delay time.

Channel Tools are intended more as a "set and forget" type of plug-in. Try varying time on some other delay plug-ins to see if you have better results. For example some of the POD Farm delays shift pitch while you change delay, like the old Electro-Harmonix Memory Man...which can be a somewhat cool effect :)
