Hi everyone,

I work on projects in both Sonar and Pro Tools because most of my songwriting is more easily done in Sonar.
I am on Win 7/64 pro-built DAW and this is what happened to me.
Sonar X1 and PT 1035 working good with Native Card with 16/16 Analog unit and RME FF800 drvr 3.077 side by side both fully shareable to all programs in ASIO. A really neat setup to be honest.
I installed PT11HD/64 (HDN) and PT1036/32 and SonarX1/32 gets CLOSED by windows when trying to save a file and before operational, also strange that RME drivers seem to be displayed wrong in record timing dialog box, Avid driver are displayed correctly yet bit depth greyed out at 24.
Have uninstalled Sonar X1/64/32 and installed SonarX2A/32 with same results.
also get a message that reads verbatim:
"there are no sound devices that match the driver model on your system, please go to edit/preferences/audio and choose a different driver model."

All other programs on the machine talk to both soundcards just fine.
MB audio is disabled and vid card audio is disabled.
I had asio4all installed and uninstalled it and left it off.
Have tried driver uninstall and rollback to 3.073 on RME and disabling the PTHD Driver in Control Panel - no results.
Both PTs work just fine on both soundcards as well so I am not ready to reinstall everything just yet.

My guess: is that Sonar is trying to reference the (PT11/64) audio driver that it cannot handle dealing with and I need to force it to ignore that driver somehow.

Q: what is the absolute cleanest and safest way to uninstall Sonar from every corner of my machine?

I have been using Sonar since the stone age.

Thank you for your wisdoms.

All yo need to do is enable the 'share drivers with other programs' and then run the wave profiler and then set up the WDM or ASIo driver mode in sonar, depending on what works best for you and then make sure the playback and record I/O mastering are set correctly.

basically, just set up your sound card (RME) in Sonar, since its a new install of sonar and then select 'share drivers with other programs ' in the preference menu

CJ,
Nope.

I also tried blowing out the Aud ini - nope
This is a deeper issue than settings.

Thanks.

This all points to PT 11 as its the first 64bit version of PT....

Best of luck but I doubt you'll get a workaround on this without buying another card to run Sonar on (like a MOTU Audio Express or something)

Let us know how you get on!

Hey There All,

I have done many workarounds to try to get these two programs to work side by side yet I am now at the start from scratch stage - reload OS and build it again...Any suggestions?

Sort of related but I had a problem with the PT11 demo screwing up my M-Audio Delta driver. I couldn't change the  sample rate no matter what I did. Even if neither Protools or Samplitude or Studio One or Reaper were NOT running. Even from a cold boot it would not work.
Nothing was greyed out BTW. It just wouldn't change either from the Delta control panel or for a project within the various DAW programs.

Tried an M-Audio driver re-install clean after fully (at least I think) removing all traces of the M-Audio driver and still no luck.

After the PT -11 demo expired I fully removed PT-11 and everything associated with it and like magic everything started working fine.

Conclusion: PT-11 is doing something to muck with the M-Audio driver. At least on my system.

Not Sonar related but similar experience.

I'm not going near PT 11..not yet. A lot of the stuff I use in PT has yet to release AAX2 versions for PT 11. PT 11 users for now have to run PT 10  in conjunction with 11 if they need use their favorite VI's and plugs. So it might be safe to say that anything you do in X1/X2 is not going to work in PT 11.
