the title probably sounds confusing, but it's just as perplexing to me. i recently put a new version of windows 7 on my computer, and installed a new firewire interface (rme 800 fireface) and i've had to re-install sonar 8.5. i'd previously had 8.5 but not as an upgrade to 8, as an upgrade to 7. at any rate, now that i have 8.5 with the 8.5.2 patch update, i've been receiving the following 2 messages for different songs i'd previously had saved as .cwp in sonar 8. they are:
" project file version 9.0.0 18.0.0.184 this file was saved from a more recent software version; it may sound different from the original, if new features were used while authoring it. overwriting this file with the same name will cause loss of these features".

the other message is as follows....

"could not open file; the file may be damaged or incompatible with this version of sonar".

it then asks to recover in safe mode, which i did with a couple of songs and i saved them under a common name. however, i'd hate to think i now need to go over my entire current song files to "re-save" them. has anyone encountered such a phenomenon?
thanks in advance

My guess is you are now using a 64 bit OS and before your projects were 32 bit. I get that warning when loading old projects too, No biggy, just the plug ins are now going to be either 64 bit or using Bit Bridge so ya, they might sound different.

Changing interface mid stream might cause an issue with the old  projects looking for the in/out configuration as well as the clock rate might be different. Check your clock rate.

Have you installed the update to 8.5.3?

i have not installed the update; it appears the update features aren't relevant to my issue. as well, i'm running windows 7 32 bit; i'd been running it for quite some time, but i recently installed a new license; also re: the safe mode songs: i've loaded a couple and once they've been 're-saved' they've appeared ok. what does safe mode allow/disallow to song data, both audio and midi?

Maybe it sees 8.5.3 as "more recent" than 8.5, so I would try the update and see what happens.
