the MOV format is native to Qucktime. Although this is a rather adaptable format in video editing, it is far from perfect. It will work in Premiere though.
H264 or mp4 is working very well in almost all current video editors because of the 1080i resolution however, with regard to this post, i have not imported the video and audio stream into Sonar. one thing about Sonar is that it doesnt edit video as mentioned above, hence its inherent video decoding codecs may not be a powerful when compared to native video editors like Premiere.
as far as i can remember, Sonar likes AVI. As mentioned in a previous post, AVI being a container, do use the codecs "DV NTSC", "DV PAL" or "DV (24p)" for 29.97fps, 25fps or 24fps respectively. A 2min file will take up about 420MB of space when done. If you're using Premiere, just use the AVI Export presets, they got you covered.
The thing about installing third party codecs for video playback is fine for viewing either on VLC or other media players. However, quite some time ago i had a nasty experience after installing an audio "split" type codec just to satisfy some specific video condition. trust me.... when i tell you that it affected the ASIO codes, among others, and Sound Forge was plagued with issues i cant even begin to describe.
do install these codes with care.
cheers all...
