I have just completed a feature film, done all the sound design with over 200 tracks of audio, imported OMF's, shed loads of soft synths, working with a hi res MOV video, exported all the different mixes i.e M&E, DME, Theatrical, Tv, DVD mixes etc and as I say, had no issues whatsoever

It can be done, and it does work.

 Hi Markyzno !

I remember we had discussions on another thread about video codecs..

I'm not sure I still have the right codecs to make Sonar behave correctly,
I get wierd lags all the time.

Would you mind sharing your video converting settings ? (please!!)

I think the community (but me first!) would really appreciate it !

I've been dealing with these lags and get over it to get things done, but it would make my day if I could solve this!

Many thanks !

I just completed 10 hour long shows for a cable series.

What series? I'd like to hear your work.

As of right now i can not say....non-disclosure thingy.  Soon I'll be trying to let everyone and their brother in on it for promo purposes.

Until then here is a somewhat dated Youtube demo.

Heya Mate :)

I just have the klite video codecs installed.

Theres *probably* another couple as well but I cant for the life recall what they are!!

In terms of exporting video from Sonar, I NEVER do this as basically Sonar is ghastly at it....So I export the audio, then remarry the sound to video in either Premiere (for high end stuff) or plain old Movie maker (for rough video cuts and smaller files)

The video files I usually get from clients that are imported into Sonar are MOV's...H264 Mpeg Layer 4 decoded by Plana 4:2:0 YUV, frame rate at either 25 fps or 24 fps....Audio at 48k 24 bit. Resolution 1920 x 1080.

Hope this helps!

Hey Marky !

You just made my day !

I thought that MOV files were no longer working in 64bit Sonar... !!
I updated my Klite pack, and BAM!! it works !

I still get some lag when locating when audio is not playing, but it's way better than it used to. I can work with this now!
and it seems I get no lag at all when I scroll when audio/video is playing (that's the main thing I wanted to work!).

So thanks again .. really !

Cheers!

the MOV format is native to Qucktime. Although this is a rather adaptable format in video editing, it is far from perfect. It will work in Premiere though.

H264 or mp4 is working very well in almost all current video editors because of the 1080i resolution however, with regard to this post, i have not imported the video and audio stream into Sonar. one thing about Sonar is that it doesnt edit video as mentioned above, hence its inherent video decoding codecs may not be a powerful when compared to native video editors like Premiere.

as far as i can remember, Sonar likes AVI. As mentioned in a previous post, AVI being a container, do use the codecs "DV NTSC", "DV PAL" or "DV (24p)" for 29.97fps, 25fps or 24fps respectively. A 2min file will take up about 420MB of space when done. If you're using Premiere, just use the AVI Export presets, they got you covered.

The thing about installing third party codecs for video playback is fine for viewing either on VLC or other media players. However, quite some time ago i had a nasty experience after installing an audio "split" type codec just to satisfy some specific video condition. trust me.... when i tell you that it affected the ASIO codes, among others, and Sound Forge was plagued with issues i cant even begin to describe.

do install these codes with care.

cheers all...
