Dave,
Click on User Control Panel, then Feature Preferences button and make sure "Always Subscribe when posting" is unchecked.
Then if you ever want to be informed on a specific thread, click the "Subscribe to this thread" link at the top of the thread.

I have an internal conflict. This was actually Helpful, so part of me wants to mark it so. But the CH part of me says that isn't what the Helpful button is for.
I think I'll grab a glass of wine early today ....
