JAB3,

Using Waves here with no problems, X2a 64-bit using the Waves V9 64-bit plugs.  Also use them with Sonar 8.5.   Bought the v9 version of Waves Gold, CLA Classic Compressors, Redd Console, Masarati and CLA Bundles and SSL.   I think they are excellent plugs.    Best wait until they have their specials to get a feel for them.   You can also trial any plug for 14days once you have a Waves Account.  Just bought Kramer Tape today on special, $49 with Waves voucher;)

Did Waves stop using iLok? What protection scheme are they using now?

I'm not going as far as Bit but I can sympathize with him on waves plugins. They are good no one can deny that but they are not magic or better then so many others. They wont make you a rock star.

I got the Gold bundle a while ago on a serious discount - there's no way I would have bought it at the normal price, but for the price I paid there's a lot of damn good plugs in there. I agree, they're not "magic" (what plug is?) but for everyday plugs they're great and I get loads of use out of them. My favorites are the H-Comp and the H-Delay, I can't imagine not using them on a project.

JAB3, if you haven't been seduced into the Waves cult yet, it's not too late - turn back while you still can.

(Yeh, everybody already knows I despise Waves, but some get disappointed if I don't jump in and say so whenever the topic comes up.)

LOL.  The more and more I'm hearing people talk about slight GUI issues and knob precision issues, along with your post, the smelling salt is starting to take affect on me. I had my mouth piece knocked out, and I was down for the count, but got back up and made it to my corner of the ring, just as the bell sounded.

I will be patient and keep trolling around the forums/etc. to see what other products people rave about in Sonar. Especially now that some in this post have told me that Wave frequently drops specials/sales.  On another note, it would be really cool if Cakewalk started pushing their prochannel philosophy to venders more (e.g. like Overloud).. If they can do the same thing like Propellerhead is doing with their expansions, that would rock!!

Rod,

Regarding your question about Waves licensing, they have dropped iLok as a requirement.   I store my Waves Licenses on a regular USB memory stick.   Personally avoided Waves in the past because of the iLok licensing requirement and the price, however, they do have some decent prices when they run specials.

John,
Fully agree with your statement about not being magical plugs.  They are not magical and you can certainly produce a crummy mix with them.  Like any quality plugs you do have to spend time learning how to use them properly.  You can certainly get the same results with PC as you can with the Waves stuff.   I personally like how the Waves stuff sounds and the consistency of how the plugs are laid out.

Okay. So Waves is running a special on there bundles currently. .................

I am a big fan of Waves..they sound noticeably different than other plugins! Better! However I have found the NLS....and sometimes the PuigTec GUI's go all psychedelic with horizontal smears and basically unreadable...this happens (I believe) when I am pushing the amount of overall plugins to the max...Waves response is not even memorable ..as in not much help...although there tech support is excellent...not on this issue however...anyone else having this issue??

That's what I do as well.
My ilok thing crapped out on me, & I wasn't going to buy another, but then Waves bailed on the ilok too.
Now I use a simple Kingston USB flash drive [$8] for my Waves licenses only.

They way it works now, is that you download what's called a license cloud from the Waves web site.
Once you log in, your new licenses will appear there.
You then have 3 options:

1. Leave them there.
2. Transfer them to a USB flash drive for use at another computer, as in my case - off-line rig.
3. Transfer them to your hard drive where your Waves plugs will be used. The risk there would be hard drive failure.

Option 2 gives the option to use the licenses on different rigs.
