I am helping a friend install essential on his computer (which is my old one) It had all installs of Sonar 6 through X1 which I uninstalled before passing over to him. He bought Essential and the Midi box mentioned in the heading doesn't show up at all in the midi devices? I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and no luck. Any ideas from all you Sonar Guru's out there? Thanks in advance and have a Rockin' Day!

1.  Does Windows see the interface?  To check, right-click on Computer and then click on Manage.  Once the Computer Management utility program opens, you will see Device Manager on the left side.  Click on that, then when you see the device tree open up, expand the Sound and Game Controllers and you should see your M-Audio Midisport 4x device listed there.

2.  Is it possible you have it plugged into either a USB 1 or USB 3 port?  OR, perhaps you want a USB 2 port that is powered.  Some interfaces are picky when it comes to the type os USB port they are plugged into.

all I can stress is make sure you have the right driver for the right OS/bit.
ive used the midisport with x1 and x2.

the windows 7 drivers even work with the windows 8 os but im not sure the same goes for vista/win XP or vise versa.
also make sure you have all windows updates because if I remember correctly it uses a package from windows.
best of luck.

If he's using 64-bit Windows, he has to install the 64-bit driver for the M-Audio box.

My experience with MIDISport is that the driver may have to be installed more than once and the installation has a specific sequence of event, i.e., start installation software with device attached, unattached device, continue with software install, connect device, etc.  Further, the MIDIsport must be used in the same port which was used at the time of installation.  The MIDISport will not be recognized if you install using one port then later connect it in a different port.

If the above does not apply, please forgive the nuisance.

Kind regards,
