I just tried to save a track template with automation lanes, because I want to be able to control a soft synth externally and bring up the remote control settings at will. But apparently the automation lanes are not saved with a track template. Is there a workaround for this? I'm using Sonar X2a.

Just tried this and I get the same thing you do.
 
Also, when I try to create an envelope on the imported track from the template, the soft synth doesn't appear in the drop down menu for possible automation sources.
 
Sounds like a bug, unless anyone knows any different.
