  • Setting loop points during playback sure does crash Sonar a lot

Anyone else? I select a chunk of the timeline or select clips and then shift-L to set the loop during playback - around 20% of the time, Sonar freezes and makes a stuttering machine gun noise and I have to kill the task.

I know the obvious solution is to just stop playback first, but I cannot help myself sometimes...that's just how I roll

Seriously though, setting loop points on the fly is part of my workflow and I hope the bakers are working on general loop improvements....i.e. improved stability and glitch-free looping (yep, still getting the cracks and pops when looping).

Yup I get this too, I also get it lots of audio dropouts when changing screensets that have the console view open in the multi dock. I thought it was just on screenset 1 but actually it's when the multi dock is not floating and console view open.

But with respect to your issue, yup I get it to, although mostly just a dropout.

They are the only two problems I consistenly have with X2

I'm running 7 and X2 64 on an AMD rig, and I can't make it lock up for anything with looping. I can trick it into going silent, which I'm guessing makes it lose it's place in playback, but not when using shift-L to set the range. I initially had an M Audio midi interface and it locked up constantly looping, but I used midi-ox to figure out the interface was the problem. Swapping it out for a Roland fixed it. Maybe try selectively disabling some additional hardware and see if it could be causing the problem. I've found out that even having a sleeping tablet plugged in at the same time can mess with it. Good luck with it.

I stopped trying to perform a lot of the actions with the transport rolling back in version 6, and old habits die hard, hence I don't see your problem sharke

I can't say I have this problem myself...I will keep and eye out, as I will be looping quite a bit tonight!

Chiming in late to this discussion.  I am having the same problem. Dropouts and Sonar crashes with either changing screensets or setting/adjusting looping while audio is playing.  The performance indicator shows I should be fine as far as CPU and HD performance.  I can't recall ever having this problem (the looping part) with 8.5.  This is very annoying.

Hi all, not sure if this is related to Windows Display issues.

i used to get a few, clips and pops, while changing screensets. However when changing loop regions while on PLAY, there is only a slight "click" after the release of the mouse on the Loop Start or Loop End markers.

i made a change to the following:
1.  close off Sonar
2.  Right click the Sonar Icon on the Desktop
3.  Look for the TAB "Compatibility"
4.  Check "Disable Desktop Composition"

Open up Sonar to test, if the problems still exists or has been reduced.

This setting has something to do with the Windows Aero thinngy... and pushes the display directly to the GPU. If this works, there is a more permanent solution that will disable the entire Windows Aero Themes stuff from all installed programmes.

hope it helps...

reminds me back YEARS ago when I read on the upcoming "fixes" and "new releases" the "live audio engine" and its never improved, not once.
sometimes (not always) im only looping midi tracks too.
so much argh.

Yes it does as do a lot of things during playback. Try cranking up your buffers. Before I got my new interface and did some system tweaks I could barely turn parameter knobs during playback. Sonar seems to have a real problem staying stable during transport. It does seem a lot better in X2 than it was in X1 though.
