Hello, I have this problem where the Master Volume just turns off? During "Play" when I would hit the STOP, the master volume fader would turn off?
It's an intermittent problem, where it doesn't happen all the time. Weather I have one track or many tracks with or without plug-ins. I have checked my software (Sonar producer X2) midi settings & properties, my Computer settings and everything checks out! I'm using the "MCU Pro" surface controller
with the latest Firmware: v4.0.2, I've Uninstalled and re-installed both Sonar (up to date), and MCU Pro. I have also checked all the Microsoft updates, and that's not the problem, because it's been going on for a while, and I've just been putting up with it.

I could be missing something, has anyone ever had this kind of problem? If so, could you Please give me an idea of which direction I should go?

Thank You

Mike.

Please confirm:
The Master bus-track volume fader goes down to zero, or the project goes silent/audio engine stops, or the MCU master fader goes down to zero?
-------------

Is there a "Zero controllers at stop" option in Preferences-dialogue? IMO it should/could not cause such, but you never know.

Does it have any relevance whether you stop the playback by pressing space bar, clicking the "STOP" at transport bar or using the MCUs buttons?

Hello Kalle, thank you for your response! "Yes" when the master volume goes to 00 from Unity, the keyboard space bar does the same as the stop button on the MCU Pro control surface! Like I had mentioned this is an intermittent problem, which I've also tried other control surface (SSL, Tascam, Roland), same result. I've done diagnostics on my computer and that all checks out and running perfect. I have done the Bus-Track and that doesn't effect the master volume. I've tried all that you have suggested, and still the same.

This has been going on for a couple of years or so from Sonar Producer 8 to X2, I've tried contacting Cakewalk, I've tried downloading to another computer, which this is also brand new (Making three different systems).

I don't want to go to another DAW software, I just moved away from my Protools HD, which I like the Sonar more but this situation has me frustrated as you most know during recording sessions, things move quickly without "all of a sudden" the master volume would move down to 00? can't punch-in when, every two or three presses of the stop button, turns off the volume?

Thank You again for you suggestions, I might have to consider other options.

Mike.

I'm not sure I'm fully understanding what's happening.

Are you saying that you have your master buss volume level at unity, you press stop, and the master buss level drops instantly to -INF?

I think he must mean Master Volume (CC7) on synths. Sure sounds like the "Zero Controllers" setting that Kalle mentioned. It might seem intermittent if some tracks have CC7 messages in them for the related Controller Seachback function to find. If not... silent synth syndrome.

I'm left a little confused still...
I asked if it's one, two or three, and the answer is "yes". :o)
When you talk about Master Volume, do you mean SONARs Master bus or the MCU?

If the former, then what does this mean:
"I have done the Bus-Track and that doesn't effect the master volume"

Hello Fastbiker, Yes! when I have the master volume at Unity, which most of the time I don't touch, other than Play and Stop, to go over the previous part, when I press "Stop" the Master Volume slider (also audio volume) goes down to zero, then I have to move the slider back to Unity.

I've gone back to all defaults on the Sonar software, I've tried other surface controllers, and computers (dedicated stand alone no internet connection other than Cakewalk downloads and updates, No Microsoft updates to interfere operation) and still the same situation. Also being intermittent my first thought software corruption, but this has been going on for a couple of years since Sonar Producer 8 to X2? And yes Mel-ware, Virus software etc have all been checked out, No problems there. All the computer's components from CPU have been completely checked out, (CPUID) from Intel Q6600 quad-core, 8g of ram etc. Maybe I need a more powerful system?

Thank You!

I don't think system power is a problem. I run an MCU with Sonar and have done through various versions with a less power (in the past) than you have now.

I experience something very similar with the faders on my ZED-R16 in MIDI mode but while activating them rather than pressing stop. That's an issue with the way the unit works but I certainly don't see anything like that with the MCU.

It would suggest to me that something is perhaps transmitting a MIDI message that your master buss fader is responding to. Does this happen with all projects, or just some?

It definitely isn't 'normal' so there must be something causing it. Are you definitely using the MCU in "Mackie" mode?
