Downloaded the trial version of Izotope Stutter Edit. Followed the directions in the embedded help file for setting this up in Cakewalk Plug-in Manager as a Soft Synth rather than an Effect (Configure as Synth checked on from the Plug-In Properties tab). Following the directions, I should be able to go to the FX bin on a track and select Stutter Edit from the Soft Synths list. However, it continues to show up as an effect. Anyone successfully get this to set up as a soft synth? If so, what step am I missing. Emailed Izotope tech support but no response yet. Would like to be able to try it before the 10 day trial is up. System details in sig.

I should add that it is step 5 in the help file here that is giving me fits (Quickstart/Cakewalk Sonar):

Despite following the first 4 steps to the letter, whenever I go to load as a soft synth, it doesn't show up; still shows up as an Audio FX. This despite the fact that it shows up as a VSTi Instrument along with all the other soft synths when I go into Plug-in Manager. Have tried rebooting and rescanning. Really at a loss for why this is being recognized and wont open as a soft synth.

I don't have it, but a producer I sometimes work with uses it extensively.  There have been no problems w/ it when I"ve remixed on her system, so it does work.  I do know she is still on 8.53 and I think it is 32 bit, so that may make a difference.

I don't doubt that it works: it the "how do I get it to load as a soft synth vs. audio fx" that is holding me up.

So here was the Izotope tech support response:

Thank you for contacting us.

You may need to manually force Stutter Edit to be listed as a VSTi plug-in for Sonar. You can do this by following these steps:

1.) Open the registry editor by typing 'Regedit' in the "Start (menu) - 'Search programs and files' (dialog box)"

2.) Navigate in the registry editor to the following directory:

Computer\HKEY_Current_User\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\Cakewalk VST X64\Inventory\c:/program files/vstplugins/iZotope Stutter Edit.dll

***Please note that this directory may be slightly different as your default VST folder may include the 'Steinberg' sub-folder instead.

3.) Once you have navigated to this directory, please find the 'registerAsSynth' key, right-click it, and select 'Modify'. Please change the value to '1' and click OK'.

4.) Once this value is changed, please load Sonar and attempt to load Stutter Edit within the Soft Synth menu for the FX window.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Unfortunately, the value indicated in step 3 was already "1" so this didn't do the trick. Again, it's not that the Stutter Edit doesn't show up as a VSTi in the plug-in manager, it's that it wont load as a soft synth when I right click in the effects bin. It only shows up as an audio FX and therefore it wont work, as far as I can tell. Weird. Thankfully this was a free trial.

Hey Rusty - I don't know if you ever found a solution, but I think I found one today.  Are you on a 64 bit system?  I realized that because I am, I have two instances of most of my plugins in the registry.

Computer\HKEY_Current_User\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\Cakewalk VST X64\Inventory\c:/program files (x86)cakewalk/vstplugins/iZotope Stutter Edit.dll

The first listing I found already had the "1" in step 3 like yours did.  Then I scrolled down and found the other listing at

Computer\HKEY_Current_User\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\Cakewalk VST X64\Inventory\c:/program files/cakewalk/vstplugins/iZotope Stutter Edit.dll

That one still had "0" under the "isSynth" value.  I changed that to "1", went back in to Sonar, and Stutter Edit appeared in the Soft Synth list.

I use Stutter in X1 64 bit fine.   And I didn't do any registry stuff to do it either.

If I remember right what I did was go into manage plugins, select stutter edit, go into properties and click treat as a synth.  Then you should be able to load it on your audio track, and create another midi track that points to stutter edit.

Was this issue ever resolved?  I'm having the same issue.  And I went into RegEdit and modified the RegisterAsSynth to 1 as well.  I left the RegisterAsPlugin as 1 too.  Don't know if that was correct.

Ahhhh.  I did a search in my folders for iZotope Stutter Edit.dll.  Found all the dll files and in RegEdit manually modified all the dlls to 1 and that fixed the issue.

This must be due to how you have all your plugins organized in your folders.
